New seedlings

Hi guys and girls. I’ve never tried to grow any plants so bear with me. I bought my seeds and I’m sure they are all females. I germinated them and put them in a styrofoam cup because that’s what I had on hand. I noticed that they were extremely wet and even though I was putting them outside most of the day they just weren’t getting dry. So, I had some 5 gallon grow bags that my wife uses and I got some potting soil and transplanted them into those bags. I haven’t watered them yet but I just did this yesterday. They are about 5 inches and look pretty good. What is the next step? Should I give them a little water?

Going to need some fertilizer very light strength with whatever you go with. Also easy on over watering when there small. Good over all fertilizer to get is liquid seaweed and spray leaves and give a drink but don't get leaves wet in direct sunlight.

The plant looks healthy, but you're going to have a difficult time maintaining the proper moisture level for fast growth with a plant that small in a pot that big.
Plus your soil looks dense.........no perlite or very little for aeration.
Roots need oxygen for good growth.

Thanks guys. I put them outside this morning and gave them a little water. I’m hoping that they will be okay to just leave outside now. They seem to have made it through the transplant okay but I know they are still small and I could lose them if not careful. I have put them outside for 10 hours a day since they were germinated so I think they will be fine. What dose it mean when you see yellow leaves? I have one very small one and I noticed that it has some like that. I might lose it, but what would you do?

I know the soil looks like that but it is really loose. It’s potting soil mixed with peat.

Thanks, I didn’t water at all yesterday, but I just gave them a good dose. I’m leaving them outside now unless it rains. Here’s were their at right now. I know I’m being paranoid about this, but I don’t want to lose them. I’m 70 years old and haven’t grown any since I was a kid,lol.

buy yourself a soil moisture meter from Amazon. we have a couple of them and they seem to work very well. poke the probe into the soil and it tells you how dry/wet it is. as a seedling, you want to keep the media pretty dry at first and only water around the seedling itself, until your roots have time to establish itself inside your pot. I use a spray bottle on my seedlings. just spritz just around the middle of the pot until its damp. gradually, over time, it will begin to take up more water and you have to increase the amount you give them.

Let them get fairly dry between waterings. Outdoors and in pots, that can happen pretty fast. But careful not to overwater, which is one of the most common errors. I only water potted plants every few days, depending. Think about getting a cheap dry amendment like Dr. Earth and start feeding every couple weeks. At some point, bringing them in and out is not going to be as easy. They’re fine getting some rain and becoming outdoor plants, though I think outdoor plants do better in ground or in larger pots. Outdoor plants are likely to have some pest issues too. Looking good so far.

Okay, thanks guys. I have been wondering about over watering them. That’s why I’m asking these dumb questions. I’m leaving them outside now unless it rains really hard. I’m going to get one of the moisture meter and see if that will put my mind at ease.

Here’s my plants at about 3 weeks. Are these looking good or do I need to water more? I’m leaving them outside now, and they seem to be healthy. I water them every other day. Should I be feeding them with some type of fertilizer? Sorry for the stupid questions but I’m really new at this.

Rain isnt a problem till flowering bud its then you pray for dry days in veg it can rain all it wants saves you watering em so often and yes they be ready for a feed keep it light tho less is more u can always add but cant take away so easy

I’ve been watering pretty hard and these plants have taken off. I’ve no idea what to do about pruning. When should you start? Here’s one of them but they all look good

So I guess I should let them go for now? They seem to be getting plenty of sunlight. Sorry for the dumb questions but I have no idea of what I’m doing? I really want to try to grow these without failure so I’m asking too many questions. I think I’m just going to put them in the ground and grow them like I would a tomato plant, lol.
