What do y’all think about this for a molasses instead of using something from the grocery store
Not sure about that stuff. I use hi-Brixe molasses.. it’s like $15 a gal. Works good n lasts forever
I think it would be ok. I know people have complained that different types of molasses can give your final product distinct flavors. Tons of people amp up the hi-Brix and I have no complaints. Everyone’s loves the taste of my herb. But I’m pretty sure the main thing the molasses does, is feed your benes.. if it were me, I’d stick to a product that’s been proven
What are you using molasses for?
Hi brix is basically raw molasses. It's low carb vs. store bought. Used for it's micro delivery.
Not a big feeder of living bio's in soil. If used for brewing AACT. You need to triple + the amount used vs. Store bought...Store bought molasses has higher carb content (they add sugar water or corn syrup to the molasses to sweeten it)..
I do not see much benefit to molasses use directly into soils. The reason they have it as raw. So it can be used in hydro and not cause fermentation.
If you really want to deliver molasses micro's well to soil or hydro.
Go to your local restaurant supply and buy gallon of molasses cheap.
Mix that with an equal amount of water in a glass carboy (for brewing beer in) add brewers yeast and top with the bubbler. Keep in a warm place out of the light.
14 days and then pour the mix into a large stock pot. Filter the liquid through several layers of cheese cloth or use a turkey fryer oil filter.
Now boil that liquid down by 50% (back to the thick syrup consistency). You have now cooked off the alcohol and killed off the yeast.
You know have fermented molasses. This is the best form of molasses to use for micro supplementation - soil or hydro...
Use this at the "normal" rates used for store bought....
I prefer to use actual brown sugars for my supplement mix's as a bio food, to increase the bio activity and help the availability/uptake of the supplement used. For some reason they really like complex refined sugars.
Now to actually make AACT. I prefer that restaurant/bakery molasses. High sugar content, means higher living bio counts.....I mean that's the goal of AACT after all, eh?
The idea that Molasses changes terp profiles is rather dubious. This idea is basically part of an old school hippie myth...
Compounds of sulfur (Mg sulfate, K sulfate, Fe sulfate, Cu sulfate, Mn sulfate, etc) do more to influence terps for smell and flavor then the minor amounts available in any form of molasses....
It will not increase bud size either....
Sorry....
Try the fermented for the micro's! Good stuff...
