Heres whats going on, I have a box. 3 feet wide, 2.5 feet long, and 5 feet tall. Its inside of a closet. I have two holes cut to ventilate air, one located at the bottom left hand side wall, and one on top. I can fit 3 five gallon buckets comfortably inside which is essentially what im going for 3 full size healthy females. As far as lighting i have 6 cfl bulbs that I bought from target, and a way to raise or lower them depending. I have a thermometer inside the box, lights on i can maintain about 80 degrees F lights off its anywhere from 68 to 70 degrees F. My first concern is worst case scenario but i want to know if my lights will create a fire hazard with this set up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxVPYB4_TH0 . Secondly i didnt have the money to get a humidity tester should i be concerned? Im using soil obviously and after i germinated several seeds i planted them mostly in halfed plastic soda bottles that were cleaned and disinfected. I used miracle grow seed starting mix from True Value and watered it appropriately. I put them in the box lights out two days ago 11/5. Question 3, when they sprout how long should i let them grow before trasplanting to a bigger pot, and what size pot would you personally recomend? The reason i planted 5 seeds when i only have room for 3 adults is because i thought since im using bag seeds, some might be more aggresive and healthier sprouting first before others etc. So i was just going to take the most progressive 3 out of 5...meh? What are your opinions on that. After transplanting my seedling sprouts to a bigger pot I was planning on using miracle grow regular organic potting mix, and i was going to mix in a bit o blood meal. Should i add anything to that soil mix? I dont have a ph tester yet so im just keeping my fingers crossed that all is well. I have hydrated lime, ph up and ph down but the ph up and down are both in a dry form so i was also wondering if i should mix in a bit of each kind for good equal measure.

Please Help if you can. Ill add more when i have more questions thanks. I really appreciate all constructive criticism first time ive read alot but now i have specific ?'s

The lighting arrangement shouldn't be a fire hazard as long as you don't add to many lights any particular individual socket. Each of those connectors is rated at 660w so if you were using 23w bulbs you wouldn't want to have more than ~20 bulbs on the same cord. If you don't have a humidifier or dehumidifier than there is no point in worrying about a humidity gauge.

I was pulling an oz a week with 388w of CFL here - First CFL Grow - Help appreciated

I would recommend a 3:1 of 6500K:2700K for veg and the opposite for flower.

Keep them small! CFLs don't do nearly as well with large plants unless you keep a clean scrog or LST. I started flowering at this size -

Dropping bulb between plants maximizes plant absorption without the loss of restrike like you would have with a reflector. I tried to cover the canopy in smaller bulbs and submerge larger bulbs between plants.

I would yield ~ 1oz per plant. With 6 in full flower at a time and two others just rotating into the flower box I was able to harvest a plant per week.

This took place in a 2x3x3.5' area of a small closet in miracle grow soil.

that was in a 3.5 fooit room? how tall is the middle 2. look 3 foot to me. how did you get lights above them if they are as tall as the box? or are those smaller than they appear in the tub

The cab was 3.5' in height. The plants in the tub are 2.5-3.2' in height - they were often just to the side of the canopy lights in between the gaps of the X

Between canopy lights:

Here is one that got away from me -

have you thought of running 400 hid?. way way more output for same cost. your yield would double for the same cost to run all them smaller cfl. or is there size and so on restrictions

Not sure if this is addressed to me or the OP but here's what I have to say; I now have more space and am running a 600w - 1000w tent (HID):

However in a small space with limited circulation I would recommend CFLs over an HID. The apartment I had the CFL grow in would get to 90+ in the summer and I was still able to run the cab with no major ventilation aside from the small circular fan in the pictures. My 600w HID turned down to 400w always needs ventilation - even in the winter in a 4x4x6.5' tent (over four times the volume of the CFL cab).

If you are going to be running a high CFM inline fan with a carbon scrubber and ducting then you might as well go with an HID. If you are not setup for ducting, high air exchange, noise, heat... I would recommend CFLs.

i find cfl and hid...using many cfl...isnt that much diff for heat. cfl can get warm to with the ballst right in the bulb base. nice..im running 2x600 in the 4x4 tent right now. cant wait to see how tight the buds get cramming all that light in there
