just bought a new hydro et up, trying to switch over from a few successfull grows in soil, just looking for advice and info on hydro growing. In particular fertilizer amounts, ideal water temperatures, ways to maintain correct water temperatures, etc. i have 3 1000 watt fixtures, been using one MH and 2HPS for flowering and three MH for veg. using sensi grow for the base fertilizer and supplementing wiht soul synthetics big swell and cal mag. so i guess whats an ideal PPM and PH im assuming should be around 6.5-6.8?

Just adding my .02,

I plumbed my res so it was outside the tent to keep water temp down and ease of access.

PH I use in hydro is 6.0.

My water is 7.2 out of the tap.

I keep my Tent at 79-81 degrees daytime and 72-74 nighttime.

exahust fan runs 24/7, 4" 160 CFM inline fan.

6" 400 CFM inline fan pulls room air thru light hood and dumps it back in the room. (Run when light is on only)

I have a 10" fan blowing down from the top of the tent. (Run when light is on only)

a 10" fan blowing across my tent just below my hood. (Run when light is on only)

400 watt HPS.

T5 side lighting and 95 watts on each side For supplement.

as a helpful hint, don't check PH till after you add your Nutes.

my Flower Nute, Tiger Bloom, drops the PH From 6.0 to 5.45-5.55 for my 10 gallon res.

It will save you a lot of PH up n down.

I will let more knowledgable peeps talk about PPM ranges during differing stages of veg and flower.

thanks for the response! and ill keep that in mind, the sensi grow ferts i use say they are "ph perfect" and for the most part they do a good job, but it varies when mixed with other ferts.

You definitely want to keep your PH lower than you would for soil - the magic number that I've seen a lot on these forums is 5.8. As for water temperatures, 68 degrees is what you are shooting for. Keep your PPMs fairly low to start off with until you start getting some feedback from the plants. If your PPMs keep rising then your plants are drinking more than they are eating and therefore don't require more nutrients. On the other hand, if your PPMs are dropping, then you will need to add more nutrients to increase your PPM.

I run a mix of hydro (hempy-style, some 100% perlite, some 100% hydroton) and soil simultaneously, and I find 5.8 pH works for my buckets.

Anything more, I run into deficiency issues. I'd say 5.5-5.8, but I'll let the hydro guys speak up if they have better advice.

ps EDIT: as far as PPM, in my hempy buckets, I'm pretty stable at ~800-900 in full flower, but again, I'm more a soil grower, so let's let the hydro people speak.

5.5-6.5 is a good range in hydro. pristine would be 5.8-6.2. that's the magic hydro number.
That's interesting. I find that +6.0 starts locking out in my hydro pots. I'm kind of anxious to get more feedback. It wouldn't surprise me to find I'm doing something wrong :D
