You can make a simple DWC set up in a couple minutes with just a few items. I used a 3 gallon pale with lid, a 3.5 inch net pot, and a small air pump with a airstone. Just cut a hole in the lid for the pot be sure to take the time to make a neat cut so light wont leak into the container (mine was pre cut from the hydro store so its a perfect fit). Drill a hole in the side close to the top or lid for the air line ( i used a rubber grommet for a tight seal). Run your air line into the container through the hole you drilled and attach the airstone. Put the lid on with the net pot and your done!

I don't have a vent line. Honestly that hydro plant in the picture has been very low maintenance for me. I should be checking the water level, water temp, PPM, pH, in the res daily but i don't. It has even sucked the res dry a couple times because i left her for so long, and shes fine. As far as res changes go, it should probably be done every 2 weeks or so, some people go longer. I have heard of people going all the way through veg without changing the res, they just keep topping up the water level, and making ph/PPM adjustments.
