New Growth on Colas and Harvest Time

Hey insomnia47,

As stated in my first post it is a Blackstar 240w panel, strain is AK48, grown in DWC (hydro)

I used GH Flora series nutrients. I basically stuck to the GH keep it simple recirculating feeding schedule, used Floralicious Plus and Liquid KoolBloom. I also used the FloraBlend additive. She was vegged for 5-6 weeks, so on the longer side... she was about 2 feet tall when I flipped the lights 12/12. She flowered for like 80 days, so again on the long side. For the last couple of weeks I added 2Tbs blackstrap molasses/gal, and then flushed with water only for about a week and shut off the lights. Started cutting her down about 48 hours after lights out. Right now it is about 96 hours after lights out, and I still have a couple branches left to cut and hang.

I'll try and post a final dry weight later...

What will I do differently next time? Go for 2 shorter, smaller plants in the tent instead of 1 big one. I had issues with this one getting too big pretty early on in flowering, and had to do a good bit of tying down/maneuvering, and even had to crop her central growth during flowering to keep it out of the light (yes, it got that bad... small tent... modified the height of the poles myself... it is less than 5 feet tall). I'll go for a shorter vegetative period, and some cropping/fimming/lst. Hopefully I can reduce flowering time as well this way... Oh and I will definitely avoid the light blunders during the dark period... which ended up increasing my flowering time as well this time around...

It took a long time to get this one done, but she was a bigass plant too... too big really... I will work with smaller ones moving forward. This is due to my own personal space/preference/needs

You didnt necessarily have light leaks (although maybe you did), that strain does put out white pistils and continue to grow for a while into the final weeks and I don't have light leaks. I cut mine about the same time as you did yours(since I was on a schedule and my patient needed meds) and it turned out good although normally I would let it go a bit longer depending on the amount of amber, you will be happy with it. Good strain for weight, reasonable height and buds get tight, smell/taste is not the best but effect and yield is very good. I found 2 phenos when I grew that, one was extremely bushy (sort of auto tops itself :) like 8-10 tops ) and the other is a little less bushy. The less bushy one (about 3-5 tops) was more desirable since yield was significantly better. That plant doesn't need a lot of veg time you can cut it back a bit.

you must have made another mistake somewhere along the line bro. light leaks and even nute burn won't cause the final dried/cured product to taste bad. You either didn't flush out your medium good enough or at all. If it didn't even make decent hash... then, well sir, you apparently made a mistake or you just had a very crappy strain with shitty genetics. Or you probably made a mistake and didn't dry/cure them correctly.. or you may have not cured them long enough. Curing takes at least 2 to 3 weeks before most of the chlorophyll gets evaporated. As long as you cure for a good 3 to 4 weeks.. it should taste just fine. If you were to cure it even longer than that.. lets say 5 to 7 weeks.. it would taste even that much better because its had more time for the biological events to take place.. such as the evaporation of any remaining moisture in the product.. which is also whats responsible for clearing out the remaining chlorophyll (chemical that gives the product that green taste and the "fresh hay" smell). Which is why you should always make sure you start curing the product before the middle bud stem in the center of the bud.. snaps when bent. The idea, the best way to make sure your product gets the longest possible cure time.. is to throw the product into your curing jars when the bud-stem (the middle inner-stem of each bud) starts its transition. In other words.. its best to start curing (throw the buds into your jars) once the bud-stems have about 50% moisture content left in them. When they're at this level.. or in the ballpark of 50% moisture level, the stem will have "spring like" properties.. which means when you bend the middle stem of the buds.. they should bounce back, kinda like a spring.. back to their prior position (or close to it). This is the prime time to toss your product into your jars and begin the curing process.

Why?

Well.. this way, the bud will be mostly dry (not completely dry, around 60% to 70% dry) and the inner middle bud-stems of each bud will have most of their moisture left (around 80 to 90% left). This is important because not only does the curing process need ample (but not too much) moisture in order to take place... but the moisture from inside each inner-stem on each bud.. will slowly evaporate, which will also give the bud/product an even cure/dry.. which in return gives the grower a perfectly evenly dried product that will burn perfectly.. or close to it.. but perfection is what we want here. ;)

Also, during the curing process.. while the remaining moisture from the inner stem inside each bud evaporates, it takes any remaining Chlorophyll with it. This is what you want because as I mentioned earlier, Chlorophyll is the chemical responsible for giving the plant its green color.. but not only its green color, but the Chlorophyll is also responsible for giving the product its "fresh hay" or 'cut grass smell'.. as well as the grassy harmful taste. The longer you cure.. the more Chlorophyll will get evaporated.. the more Chlorophyll that gets evaporated.. the better tasting/looking and smelling the final product will be.

Anyhow, sorry for rambling. Just trying to help educate the new people.. hopefully I succeeded in doing just that. If not, oh well..

you can lead a horse to water.. but ya can't make 'em drink. Ya dig? lol. ;)

everyone have a great and fucked up Memorial Day weekend. I know I will!

peace..
His right, I recon you had moldy buds cuz I pick buds in last weeks and windowsill dry them ;-) and even then they taste good and give a buzz. ouldnt recommen it using vitalink buddy on last few week though lol.

I got to get this long curing down as I got loads of buds coming this time..

Moldy or spiders this guys had, dunno if root rot could make it do it but im thinking so or may be he burnt the top buds?

Dude, Great Harvest! Ever find out why it continued to grow shoots after you started flowering? I've never seen anything like it!

Hey Guys, Hate to butt in on your thread but I need some help please. I read a thread about someone putting their plant on 0 lighting before harvest and it started new growth. I can't find the thread but I am having the same problem. I put mine on 0 lighing for 36 hrs and checked last night and they all had new growth and it seems to me some new white hairs. I swear they were ready for harvest. Should I chop or put them back on 12/12? Thanks, Jude
