New grower needs help regarding ledmlights

The add shows minimum of 18" from top of plant most likely due more to proper spread of spectrum over heat or intensity.


Then whatever you can do to keep plant short enough, like under 2'. Should be doable.

Maybe not burn then, but would this '600w' not hurt the plant of it gets closer than those 50cm minimum they say

That other light the yintatech 600w has other concerns than height, heat will be an issue too in a tent that size.

These old tech leds give off lots of heat

Can't speak on that light but i run several leds that plants have been with in 3-4inches and there was no real worrisome damage.

Those cheapo amazon leds are old tech, they give off tons of heat and need height to achieve a decent light spread and not fry shit.


even that secret jadin tent is only 4` tall....imo the only thing suitable for tents that short are t5s,cfls and top tier leds ran hella soft.


or some crazy ass training and discipline to keep the plants growing low and outward, not tall

Was meaning 2ft but just realized used 140 instead of 120cm.

120 approx 47 inches.
Minus 20 for head room and distance to canopy. 27 inches.

7inch pot, 20 inch plant.

Fan and filters outside.

So based on this, am I understanding this correctly, power wise it's ok, sizewise it is ok IF I keep the plant under 20 inch AND have the filter outside,. BUT issue would be a definite (or manageable) problem.


If not going for the second tent, maybe adding 2 more 20watt LEDs is a (better?) option?

Also, their description of how far to place it, is the same across all 3 of their models, the 300, 600, and 1000 watt version all say 18" ... ?

So is this 18" correct ? Or can it actually be placed closer, or should it be even further ? I'm really on the fence and would like to just buy the 120cm high tent.

Can anybody somewhat confirm or debunk this 18" height.

I wanna get the bigger tent but don't want to end up regretting it in 2 months, having 2 tents and no usable lights for either ....


If I understand correctly, even if it does not get too hot, it might simply be too much light and still 'burn' the plant?

Actual watts is the only thing that matters.

Very doubtful that 135w lamp is going to hurt your plant. The 18 inch distance from canopy is most likely due to light pattern spread. 135w of that type led is probably just right for that space.

It seems like these small tents are marketed for folks who are not planning on training outwards to get an even canopy (scrog, topping + LST, etc). If you're planning on doing lst or scrog, are these useful even for one plant?

Just asking. It seems built for non- topped growth.

When you pick your plant, look for one that grows shorter, like a lot of indicas do. You can have success in little tents, I have a friend that grows in one that's about 24" X 24" X 36" and has some killer colas. He built his COBs when we did, but mine are for my 5' X 5' tent, so a little different.

Go with a HLG 100 v2 as someone already suggested, or you could even bump up to the HLG135. you want the 3k spectrum for full cycle seed-to harvest. 4k is for veg only.
with not even 3ft of headheight though your gonna need to do this smart-- find a thin but wide container to use as your pot so you can eliminate some height there, id try to find something no taller than 6inches but that utilizes as much of the floor space as possible- it shouldnt be too hard to find a 1ftx1ft plastic box of sorts and even if it comes taller you could trim it down to 6inches. Then you just need to do alot of training, tie the plant branches down as they grow to make them go wide instead of tall.

Branch allow me to give you an easy-to-follow guideline here. For a new grower space is your friend, alot of newbies have the mentality of "ill just start small" but as someone who has not dealt with this plant (or probably many plants in general) you will be completely shocked at what they can do. So even if your only gonna run 1 plant, give yourself some space for that one plant, the more experience you get the more you can consolidate. when I started i was doing 4 plants in a 4x4 tent, when i got familiar with the plants i said to myself "this 4x4 is kinda big for what i need" so i started doing 6 plants in a 4x2 tent, now i do 4 plants in a 2x2 tent, experience is key to making a small grow work well.

All that being said here is my best advice, if you wanna keep a small footprint you can stick with 2x2, but if you have the room for it then look at a 3x3, whichever size you go for make sure there is atleast 4foot height, if you can find one with 5ft height thats even better. Lighting is (at least in my opinion) the most important piece of any grow, and as such its the #1 thing you DONT wanna cheap out on.. we all love saving money.. but save money on other shit, spend a good bit on your lights, the HLG lights may seem pricey for you but they will out-perform any other light you will find, the HLG100 v2 that several people have suggested isnt even that expensive, only 150$ on amazon and it will beat that 600w blurple junk you bought any day of the week, not only that but it will run alot cooler (minimal heat output) and can be closer to the plants than most lights without any negative effects. hell i just checked ebay and theres even a HLG135 v2 for only 170$! im sure to a newbie like yourself there probably doesnt sound like theres a big difference between the HLG100 and HLG135 but the 135 is actually like 75% more powerful than the 100. remember if you go for HLG you want a "3k" or "R-spec" spectrum, this spectrum is geared toward flowering but will do well through veg stage also, the "4k" is for veg only, it will not be sufficient for flowering.

To summarize-
1.You need more head height no matter what, until you have a better understanding of the plants youre working with atleast.
2. A larger footprint (3x3 vs 2x2) would be beneficial for you, again atleast until you have a better understanding of the plants.
3. get a QUALITY light, no more chinese blurple crap!
