New Grower Looking to Setup Grow Tent in Garage

Hello Everyone,

This is my first time growing and wanted to run my purchasing list by someone before I make a dumb mistake. I was hoping to spend less than 500 on everything but seems like might not work out. I am hoping to build a 2x4 setup.

After Discounts:
AC Infinity 2x4 Tent: 104
AC Infinity 4" filter + fan kit w/o controller: 125
AC Infinity Cloudforge t3: 45
(2) Viparspectra xs1500 pro: 200
Some Cheap circulation fan: ~20
TOTAL for tent kit: ~500

(I was considering going for the 6 inch fan kit and dropping the cloudforge t3 if that can control RH, but I don't think it'll be enough humidity control so for ~200 altogether I think the fan and cloudforge would be a good combo.)

I live in an area where the lung room/ my garage temp will be around 50-80 degrees during my entire grow with a RH of around 50-70 right now. I think that using the fan to lower humidity and the cloudforge to control it will work well, and the temps are not gonna be too hard to control otherwise. Any advice before I pull the trigger?

@Billy the Mountain is there a more optimal setup? or would I have to just purchase a dehumidifier? The other solution I was thinking was a cheap humidifier and dehumidifier and run them with an inkbird instead of the Cloudforge. Do you think that would be more worth?

Add in a dehumidifier if you’re already hitting 70%. Adding plants and soil will most likely increase your room RH a tad. You will also need one for drying.

You can probably get away with no humidifier but it doesn’t hurt

Spring for the WiFi based controllers so you can set alerts and monitor the room. I use INKBIRD but people seem happy with AC infi stuff.

If you have slight possibility or wanting to upgrade to a large space it doesn’t hurt to upgrade to a 6” fan now and just run it at low speeds. A lot of people start in a 2x4 and move on to 4x4 or 5x5 fairly quickly.

Here's my improved setup now:

AC Infinity 2x4 Tent: 104
AC Infinity 4" filter + fan kit w/o controller: 125
Insignia 50 Pint Dehumidifier: 110
(2) Viparspectra xs1500 pro: 200
Some Cheap circulation fan: ~20
TOTAL for tent kit: ~550

Do you guys think I get a 50 Pint Dehumidifier and make an attempt to control my garages humidity is viable? or would the humidity vary too much? It is currently raining every once in awhile so that might affect it but soon the rain should stop.

If full of plants any tent produces more than enough moisture. A swing of 20 degrees in the lung room will be more difficult to deal with.

Easiest/cheapest way would be to insulate and add a window ac to the garage.

Okay new plan I am going to move it to my closet I believe I could just fit a 2x4 in there. The humidity is higher and the temp is also much more manageable so I think the temp in my closet will fluctuate much less as there is a door and now windows in my closet. If I were to go with that setup would a dehumidifier be enough given that the temps will stay between 65-80.

Is growing legal where you are at? If not do not grow remotely in the garage. Use a bedroom you can lock and say it's your office or a inaccessible attic

It is legal to grow where i live outdoor and indoor, but I currently rent and do not have enough time/ resources to invest in decking out a grow room so tent is the move right now. In my closet it currently is sitting at 65 F and 75% humidity. Also If anyone has any experience with AC Infinity tents, do you think I could fit a the 72" height in a 66.5" space? like can I shorten it at all?

So, with a little work and some tools you can prob shorten it. Most (if not all) tent frames are piece together metal tubing. I would mark the ones you would shorten so as not to confuse them with whole pieces. The tent will be a little slack and hang off frame but for the most part would work... If you are buying a tent, there are a few out there, off brands that may be manufactured shorter... Check Amazon. Tents don't really matter in the big picture, save money for more important gear

Is there a particular reason you're going with AC infinity for tents? I mean I'd understand it if you were going with their tent kit or if you're using the controller or something, but if you're only buying a tent, why not get one that fits your closet properly? There are loads of options.

I am cheep. change the knob on the closet to a key.. make a light trap for under the door..Cut a piece of wood to put in the window with a vent hole. Hang the fan and light from the ceiling.

Initially I was going to get the 2x4 AC infinity tent because it was 6 ft compared to the 5 ft vivosun when i was working in less limited height of the garage. I have just seen some different feelings towards 60" tall tents. This is my first grow and I'm using autos so honestly I could definitely survive with the 60" vivosun tent with the ac inf filter.

Kinda like what I was saying… you do not have to go expensive on a tent! I’ve had a YINTATECH 4x4 tent for 4+ years and still kicking strong. Bought for 70 bucks on Amazon. Has side doors, front doors, double cinching exhaust ports in multiple sizes. I don’t worry about light leaks cuz I grow in a basement. If you are going to put it in a closet, then get a cheaper tent than AC. You said 2x3’ with shorter height? I’ll do some googling and find you one…

Well, ignore my post cuz you just solved your problem! If it’s autos, you are good! Never had an auto grow over 4 ft. And LST may be your friend

Awesome dude I appreciate your help. I think I'm gonna go with the zazzy 36x36x63 for 60 on amazon. Would you say there are any other aspects that are okay to go with amazon stuff?
