New Grower - Is this normal?

This is great advice. First I’ll give credit for growing them that big with those lights but you will suffer shortly. Agree first with need better lights. Then clone and grow more. Unsure about one of the previous comments, you have plenty of room. In the interim, while waiting or getting a new light I would top/clone/train to get them shorter after replanting and lower the lights as close as possible. If that’s a pain, see if you can find something to put under the pots to get them as close as possible, I think with those 40W T8’s they could be touching the leaves and not hurt them!
No, that is fine! I rather know whats going on now, rather than later down the line. I especially feel like I should know before I tried flowering them. :D I will just move along some of my plans and put the light on credit, no worries since its pricey enough I won't have to pay interest. Wooo!

I think I would prefer to handle them inside. Its been over 110 degrees fahrenheit every day here. I have minor temperature issues in the tent, but it doesn't usually surpass 90 degrees, other than that most of the stuff works pretty well in there. Do you think moving them outside would be too much of a temperature shock?

I have a net I can use to help push them down, would that be enough to do something similar to LST, or should I get something to actively tie them down? We have a plant limit here, and while I think of that more as a suggestion, I prefer to not have them all in one space and obviously flaunt the fact I disagree.

I can very easily lower the lights, no pain at all. I always try to set anything up so that it is modular and easy to fiddle with. I like to tweak things and optimize too much, and making it easier to do that is always in my benefit. :D

I think my goal will be to purchase this light from Amazon. My tent is 60x60x80, do you guys think that this light should be sufficient? It says it is 3 foot by 3 foot. Should I get something the size of the ceiling?

As always massive thanks to everyone for the advice and help!
Forgot to mention, don’t move them outside if 110 degrees! I do that occasionally when it’s 90 and they suffer lol.

Others may have a differing opinion, that is a good light but not for a 5x5….. unless you plan to move the plants closer to the center. The issue is you lose so much in a big tent as it doesn’t reflect off the walls. You can find cheaper decent lights that will work for a 5x5 and allow you to expand your grow later if wanting to keep it a minimum number of plants now. I don’t have the best advice on those lights though!

what I do know, I have one veg tent that is 4x8 and I run two mars hydro TS3000 that they say handle a 4x4 flower, 5x5 veg and it’s just enough. That might be a better light for you, but I’m a big Mars Hydro fan. Have like 15 of them.

for the scrog, give it a shot if not cloning. Would tie them down for a bit first as you can gauge how far you can go and each day or two can bend a little further. Can’t really move a screen down easily
I'll gather more opinions on the lights and see what others have to say, I obviously don't know much yet so I am always open to suggestions. When you say "That might be a better light for you" were you referring to the one I linked or your TS3000? I'm open to whatever would be better, just seeking some clarity on the statement as to which you were referring to. :p

That is a cool tent. How much was that? Also how do you move around in there? It looks so packed??? Do you have to take out plants to get to the ones further in? You have 15 tents? Or the lights? How much do you grow? :O

What is scrog? Is that the tying them down? Is that the same as the LST I have seen mentioned? The only other grow I did was outside and I just kind of let them sit there lol.

Ya that was my worry, thank you for addressing that. We have (had?) some bonsai that are outside and even though they are shaded and get watered twice daily, once in early morning and once late in evening, they look like wildfire survivors :/

Meant the TS3000 being better for your tent due to coverage. The cost of the tent is nothing! Lol. Couple hundred bucks on Amazon. It’s the shit that goes in there. To be honest the lights, fans, AC, exhaust, etc. are 10 times the cost but doesn’t need to be. I just went for fully automated.

I have 15 lights, 6 tents. I grow just the right amount! I don’t go in there unless I’m taking out or adding back what I move to flower except for the once or twice a month I have maintenance, checks, etc. I use irrigation everywhere so no need unless I’m topping/trimming.

scrog is a method of LST, screen of green. Look it up, easy and great for beginning to keep an even canopy. My thoughts are once you completely understand grows it becomes a thing of the past unless it makes it easier for you. I’ve had great yields from them, but they can limit plants once you grow them really large as they’re fixed and cause more issues if trying to move, adjust. That one room has 51 plants right now and all will be moved and replaced in the next 3-4 weeks in cycles.

Hmm I'll take a look into those lights then, you mentioned it might not give enough coverage though? The main reason I liked the one I linked to is that I can connect it with minimal effort to my controller. I love the data I get from there. It saves me from having to manually collect those measurements lol. I currently have a few adapters to get the lights to be controlled by it. It isn't great though as one part had failed at one point. :c Thankfully I noticed and was able to swap out the post to get the lights back on.

Ya, I was just curious because I haven't seen one in that shape. Does it only have one full size door on the front? Also what are you using for irrigation? I set mine up with some blumats which seem to be great so far. I'm limited in what I can do as far as physical work so I even set it up with a low bucket to fill that pumps the water to the reservoir bucket. Has some simple controls to handle the pump and control the water level using float switches.

And preach, the upfront cost is a little daunting sometimes for the grow tent lol. I'm currently looking into affordable ways to cool the tent. It's located in our garage which is currently cooking. :/ The tents internal temperature averages 88 while the garage peaks at 110, which isn't quite as bad as outside.

That's such a high amount of plants ha. Do you consume it all yourself or give some away or sell? I think growing 6 at a time is going to be to much for us to consume so I'm going to give a bunch to family and friends so I can keep growing lol.

Once I figure everything out I think I'll still enter the tent everyday to keep an eye on it. I enjoy that routine and I love the smell lol. It's all very relaxing to me!

Well it’ll be better than the AC IF light for sure, it would struggle trying to flower in the 5x5 if it was packed but not at all with what you have…. It’s sufficient for mine but I am packed really tight, but I don’t flower in that room either.

most of those lights can connect to most controllers, it’ll tell you when you research it. I have controllers on all my rooms and have had different lights everywhere, don’t know but did.

it has doors front and back, with smaller side

As for irrigation, I built my mine. The veg rooms spray, can’t tell but I built a slope under it and they drain into our sump. My flower rooms are drip.

We are on a well so use RO water as the well had way to high PM’s etc for me to control so I have them filling 30 gal totes and just add a little cal mag so I can get the right PH. I travel a bunch for work so had to go back to soil.

and yes, I smoke pounds of weed every month!. Dont blame you for going in there, best piece of advice which is hard to take especially at the beginning is leave them alone. They are weeds. Lol. Have to learn from your first few, make mistakes, trial and error, but remember what works and what didn’t. Water less, under fertilize, let them be yellow. The minute you try to over correct you have no idea what the actual problem or solution is/was. I’ve had plants that people said were dead and they gave better buds than you could buy (not legally anyway).

Wow, I’ll respond again when I’m sober!
