new grower indoors help needed

hi people,

i am looking to grow a single plant indoors fairly soon, i have choosen to grow the indica strain to get a better yeild, i would preffer a small bushy grow rather than a tall skiny plant.

the equipment im using would be ...

two gallon pot
600w bulb
meter squared tent by 1.5 meters tall

im looking for a fast grow being around 6-7 weeks with a high yeild of around 10+

im thinking of growing either afgan kush or nothern lights,

any tips on different things to use on the grow or anything at all would help

A few suggestions;

1. Go with a 5 gal pot. I've grown in 2 gal and if you want yield, 5 gal is the way to go.
2. You'll be tempted to go with auto-flowering, but resist....they are not what they claim to be in most cases.
3. I'm not sure if you're looking for a plant that goes from seed to harvest in 6-7 weeks....if you are, a good yield ain't gonna happen. Just pick any seed and put it into 12/12 from the get-go. If you're talking a bit longer from seed to harvest, here's a very good choice: http://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/Karamelo/Kannabia_Seeds/ as this breeder offers quality seeds.

Ok so a few things to answer here, if u want small bushy plants you veg shorter time periods and flower longer....veg = height
flower = width...also you can get high yield from any type of strain, it depends more on ventilation, lighting, soil, etc...a 600 watt light for one plant is gunna either ruin it or create a monster...id suggest a 400 watt for a 3x3 space but again u need ventilation for heat, etc... You can easily do 4 plants with a 600 in a 3x3 and clear about a ounce per plant

10 what? ounces from 1 plant or grams?

also plants take atleast ATLEAST 44 days up 8 weeks to flower. sativas up to 10-16 weeks to finish depending on the strain. that is not counting the first 2-3 weeks of being a seedling and being able to start flowering.

if you flower strait from seed you may get lucky and get 1 ounce if you have the right strain and figure it out. but being its a first grow you probably wouldnt get no more than a few grams.


i suggest you go read a book and think everything out plan ahead have your grow room finished before you you start a seed or clone.

My advice is to use a 5 gallon pot and apply my series of training to it to create a large bush, will take aprox 2 months veg from seed. Step 1 is to top the plant above the 3rd node below the 4th before the 5th has fully developed, then wait a week and top the new growth shoots above their first node. This will create a plant that is short and bushy and has many colas (8+). The next step would be to alow these colas to get an inch or 2 long each and then start supercropping the colas out in all directions to create a very short very flat and bushy canopy. Reapeat the super cropping weekly a little higher on the branch each time, you are basicly shaping the plant as well as strengthening the branches. When you are ready to flower tie your main colas down to the edge of your pot to keep the canopy even and the colas away from each other so they don't overlap.
If you do these things what you will have created is a very short and bush plant with an even canopy which is perfect to flower under a 600w light and should yield well. You most likely will not hit 10oz on your first attempt with one plant but the yield should defiantly be good. Check out the thread in my signature to see how this method has been working for me, I only did a 1 month veg from clone but I also have 5 plants going so they don't need to be as big to make best use of my light. With a 600w on one plant you are really going to want to train the plant to fill your tent as much as possible to maximize your yield. Expect a 2 month veg time and at least 2 months of flowering for an indica, 3 months for a sativa

here is a plant that was given this treatment and a 2 month veg. I didn't take pictures during flower as my camera broke but these pictures are about 2 weeks before the flip. it was nearly 3 feet wide and only a foot tall at this point. Its in a 3g fabric pot

the setup ill be using will be a simple 1 meter squared in width and 1.5 in height, im thinking of afgan kush because is an indica strain so i want a bush rather than a tree, im hoping if i put the seed 12 on 12 off from sprouting it would be a 6 week grow, im willing to wait upto 8 weeks, im looking on ventilating my tent, and using a 5 gallon with soil, im not sure if there is any better soils or other hydroponic material and liquids to use, im basically trying to gain a high yeild plant, but i want a nice product, im thinking of a 6 week grow but i might be wrong, any help would be a bonus, im looking on a 6 week grow on 12 on 12 off lighting to get around 10 ounces, but any help is a bonus so cheers guys,

reality check, you wont get 10z for a single plant unless its grown outdoors and has many months to veg. 1 plant 12/12 from seed can realisticly maybe yield an oz. 6 weeks isn't long enough at all even short flowering strains take 8 weeks minimum and 12/12 from seed will still veg itself for at least the first few weeks.
Do some research and set realistic goals please.

Nice plant and good training....BUT.....this is a first time grower....could you have done all that your first go at growing?

10 ounces on one plant.....wow....find out what you're smoking and get a clone of it because it has taken you away from reality.

I figured you typo'ed and meant one ounce. I've been growing for almost a year and am only achieving 3 ounces a plant and that's with about 4 months from seed to harvest....and I have 1,650 watts, a light-mover, some experience, and good strains.

How about this, you have a 3x3x4.5 box, 5 gallon bucket on the bottom and a bare bulb 600 on top, do all the training you want but its not going to work

First of all...DO NOT START IN A 5 GALLON POT...that IMO is just not gona give you what you want...and 6-7 weeks is less than flower time...after 6-7 weeks of veg, you will still have 8-9 weeks of flower (for an Indica)....
Start your beans in a solo cup (plastic beer cup with holes in bottom) wait till you see the roots trying to come out the holes in bottom of the cup and transplant to a 1 gallon pot...If you put it straight into a 5 gallon pot the roots will have to grow to the size of the pot first before you notice any real growth...And as for 10 Oz from 1 plant inside...bahahaha...I've dialed in my grow room and am still only getting 6-7 Oz per plant cured....I use 3 gallon pots for mine, and have not used a 5 gallon pot in almost a year, and I still get 6-7 Oz per plant...it depends on what strain, and how well you can grow, and your medium, and your lighting, and your environment...lol...
Honestly you will probably get a few grams to an Oz from your first grow, so don't expect too much from this as it will be training for what's to come...lol...

Here's my 3rd grow using 2-1,000w HIDs....6 weeks of veg and 9 weeks of flower... but hey good luck and welcome to RIU...

It won't matter if you put her straight into 12/12 or not, because it will still take 4-6 weeks to mature and start growing any type of bud anyhow...good luck man...and READ!!!!

I start plants in 5 gallon pots all the time. I see great growth before the plant's roots fill out the pot. There is no such thing as too big a pot.
Is the Earth too big a pot?

A Root bound solo cup will slow growth, a big pot will not.


Plus, I dislike transplanting, so do the plants.


1.5 meters with a 600 watt light is cutting it close.
My plants need to be about 16" away from my 600 watt light to avoid bleaching.

1 foot for the pot
1.5 feet for the light

That leaves you about 2 feet for the plant.

I would suggest you start flowering when your indica plant is one foot tall.

Missed the second post.
12/12 might be your only option with that height.

A plant is done when it is done. Most indicas need about 50-60 days of flowering no matter what.
You can not hurry a plant.

Try yanking on it to make it grow faster, see how that works out.
