Hey All,

I am based in Tenerife, want to grow my own small outdoor crop this year, so hoping I can find assistance and help on here!! I have a couple of questions, hope that they can be answered!!

I have just germinated a few seeds in a shot glass of water in the cupboard in dark over the last 28 hours or so, they have sprouted about 1/2 inch now, so I am assuming that they are now ready to plant? The weather is not perfect here at the moment, so I am going to plant into small pots, obviously root end down, and sprinkle with some soil (I am using new soil I have just bought), how much light and direct sunlight will these plants now need per day? and do I transplant them when they are about 4 inches long with leaves?

Any general help on this part of the process would b e greatly appreciated!!

Cheers,

Simon.

Sounds like you are headed in the right direction. I would give them as much light as I can . I would tranplant when the get a few sets of leaves.

Cheers, thanks for the quick response, are they best watered from above or below at this stage? and assuming in small pots, water once per day? or only when the top feels dry?

Thanks, Simon

you are growing them indoors at the moment and using natural light? if you could get yourself some floresent bulbs cfls,t-8,t-5,whatever and leave them under 24 hours light untill you put them outdoors this will be a significant improvement for your plants. put them close to the light an inch from floros wont burn them. then they will get a better headstart and produce better. not to mention not stretching as much and having a better survival rate. they dont cost much.

Hi mate, thanks for your comments! Yes I literally have just planted the germinated seeds into small pots, and may well consider what you mention!

Hi All,

Thought I would upate on my progress, as this may help other first timers inn their endaevours!

First just to let you know about my environment, I am using a cupboard totally lined with foil, I have 2 x 120 watt CFL lights hanging down, I have a temp gauge and a small size fan running.

I bought a pack of Dutch Passion, Skunk #11 seeds, to germinate i used an empty washing tablet box, placed 2 seeds in tissue, folded it and hung it over the edge of the box and closed it, leaving it in my boiler room cupboard, both seeds germinated in 2 days to a length of 2cm.

I purchased some Canibum soil from the local garden centre, seems to have everything needed, i first used a sterilized yoghurt pot, fill with the soil, take the germinated seed, root down make a small hole in soil with a pencil, place root down with tweezers gently pack soil around with fingers, so I could see top of seed case, then lightly covered with soil mix. I then water and place under a small greenhouse made from a clear plastic cup, then leave under the light, with fan on constantly to assist with humidity. Afetr 24 hours I could see seedling popping out, I leave and do not water again until I see green leaves, when I see them I take the greenhouse off, check if top is dry, if so, water and then place directly under the light and move to normal 18 hours on 6 hours off light (forgot to mention earlier, I leave the light about 2 inches directly above).

I am now 2 days further and plant is stretching upwards and looks healthly, I can see the 2 first leaves clearly now. I will update on my progress as soon as possible!

Thanks for anyone who has helped me!

Siimon.

NEW Update, So yes I am still here in Tenerife, just got my Xmas pressie, a new indoor grow tent with everything I needed! Also got a clone from a friend, so I am all set to go!

Set everything up replanted my clone into the same Canibum soli that I have mentioned above, put it under the 250W HPS light in my tent, with intake and extractor fans, temp is 27-29 degrees. When I transplanted I watered the plant with water and Bio-Grow (3mls to 1 litre of water). After 2 days under the light, the leaves have started to turn a brownish, yellowish colour and they are curling downwards, so something is wrong! I thought I may have overfed, so I have flushed it out. After reading and looking at pics on the net it kind of looks like either it's a lack of phosphoros, or it could be that my light is to near to the plant, so I have highered the light to not far off the top of the tent, and I also remixed 2mls Bio-Grow to 1l of water and fed it a little. I also forgot to mention I have the lights on 20/4 at the moment. This morning it is not looking much better, but not a lot worse either!

Wondered if anyone had any other ideas, I was tinking it could possibly be the soil, we have had some rain lately and my bag of soil has been out in it, so may have drained it somewhat? Any suggestions?

Cheers guys,

Simon
