New Grow Room

So I've converted the back room of my basement into my grow room. Granted my house is 125 years old, the basement is very dirty. The room is 10x6 and I'm dividing into two (veg and flo). I am going to run 2 4ft flouros on the veg side, and a 400W HPS on the flo side. Since the room has previously just been used for storage what should I do to clean it out other than sweep and vacuum? I'm placing plastic on the ground, should I place it on the walls as well for cleanliness? Now since I want a SoG and produce as much as possible, would you recommend me getting another fixture? Like get another 400W fixture/ballast with a MH? The guy at the garden store told me to not go higher than 400W cause of my 6' ceiling, is this correct? I'll attach pics of the room. Thanks!

after you clean the whole thing out (scrape the crap off of walls, seal up any nasty leaks ect) you should wash the room down with ammonia. dilute it to a low/med dosage (depending on what you can handle) make sure there is good ventilation and be careful, ammonia is very dangerous if used improperly.
the ammonia will kill any mold spores or possible fungi in the room.

after that, seal the whole thing up in plastic.... that pipe in the wall shouldn't be showing (use the space for ventalation) and neither should the ductwork on the roof, try to make it as sterile as possible. the less disease they have to fight off, the stronger they are in the end. stronger, healthier plants=better and more bud.


one suggestion.... throw some lower watage floro's in your flowering room with the HPS, let them hang down into the crop, but not close enough to touch buds. more light=more buds.........keep this in mind with the plastic for the room also.

Thanks, what do you mean by using the space for ventilation? And do you think 400W is enough for a SoG type op?

This is what I would do. What you have there my friend is a Diamond in the rough. The first thing I noticed other than the fact that you need a major reconditioning of the walls and floor... was... Is that a waste (sewer line) i see there? I hope you say yes.... because if you do say that is a waste line you get to vent all you exhaust directly into that and boy that will be a big help.

Anyway... what you really need to do is what I just got done doing... after you are done seterilizing the dunegon. You are going to want to atleast paint the place flat white to reflect as much light as possibe... but if it is in your budget go to homedepot and get some reflectix insulation... ya I know it is a lil pricey... but it does two major things... one it is just like block-ir and help block flir (thermal imaging) and secondly and just as important, but really more important to your crop is it is going to help you control the climate in that space... Temp and humidy control are essential.

Personally in that space... I would run 2 600's - remember more light =more bud in flowering.... and more essential oils. I would get 12 bucket ebb and gro hydro set up.... that has the lowest profile and flower/growthere.. and turn your veg room into a mother plant/cloning room with cfls or a 250MH. if you need to control the height of the plants you can do some LST(low stress training) running string to the branchs and tying them down or getting a screen and going scrog.

You will need fans, dehumidifier for that wet looking basement, ac for heat control, carbon fliter - you might be ableto avoid if you blow your exhaust intoa sewer line.....

Hell ya it is possible, its the best place to send your exhaust... whatever you do dont send it out a window... ideally since your in the basement... tie into either waste or where your furnace exhaust is and send it out thru your roof.

That room is great... you really need to get that reflectix insulation though.... you can skip mylar... I would still paint the room to cover any mold or anything that might be lurking...

you know come to think of it...I am not sure what your budget is.. but you prolly have a gas line down there... you could set up a nice single co2 burner tied directly into your gas...

oh yea... befoer you go getting your shit set up...have an electrician come in and set up electric down there... a few seperate lines... if your house 125 you might have oldknob and tube wiring and dont want to burn your shit down

Money really isn't an option, I'm just trying to make some extra on the side so I'm tryna produce as much as possible as fast as possible. How would I go about setting up a c02 burner? I believe the gas line is down there.

OK. This is exactly what I would do...

1. I would make sure I had adequate electric.

2. I would have 3 seperate circuits in the grow room. 1 for each light/timer and a fan and 1 for the ebb and grow system and everythign else.
I would get a 4th circuit for the clonign room

3. I would paint everything white then I would install reflectix insulation.

4 would get 2 600 lights with convertible ballasts MH/HPS for the flower room.

5 I would get a 12 bucket ebb and gro system (its expandable and moveable)

6 I would get and Reverse Osmosis system water is ooooo soooo important.

7. I get a 250MH for your mother plant.

8 I would get a standalone bucket drip system for the mother plant.

9. I would make the 2nd room for your mom and her clones.

10 I would get a co2 burner tied directly into your gas. ask your hydro guy - you can expect to get 10 to 20% more yield using co2.

11. you need a dehumidifier.

12 you will prolly need an AC

13. I would exhaust into the sewer.. with a carbon filter.

14. I would get PHmeter and PPM/EC meter.

15. I would get atleast 2 fans.

16. I would use Advanced Nutes but just starting out I might gowith botanicare stuff because it is more forgiving if your over do it a lil.

Now I was a little anxious and had to walk away from my computer before making any rational decisions eatlirt this afternoon. I was going to purchase like 300$ worth of feminized seeds. Top 44, because I want to harvest asap, then a strain called Medi Bud cause its an extremely high yielding strain, and then a feminized mix for variety. Should I still do so? Or is there an easier/cheaper solution. I have no resources for clones etc.

OK. You need to focus on high yielding plants that are short... make sure you get short ones... afgani types are typically shorter ones...

you dont need resources for clones... you need a small tray... some dip n gro... some rockwool. save your loot that you were gonna spend on seeds and get another lamp or something that you need.

actually get a 70$ bucket drip system for your mother plant an eco drip system... they come with start up nutes a cheap ph kit with up and down... you will love hydro they grow 2times as fast and yield 25% more.... and keep the mom in with the flowering stuff... just make sure to bring her out of the flowering room and under some cfls or someting befoer lights go out.. that way you maximize your light. only get 5 seeds... germinate 2 of them get your feet wet. or just get a bag of decent weed and use a bunch of those seeds... if they grow tooo tall do some LST

and definately get a 600 if you can swing it and bring back the 400
