New Greenhouse Idea

Whats up guys? I tried to upload the schematic for what I have in mind but apparently the file size is too large. Anyways, the dimensions are 20x70 with a gable roof. The sides are 8 feet tall and goes up to 18 feet in the middle. The rafters and side walls support are spaced 5 feet apart. I plan on building this out of 1 1/2 in PVC piping with 2 solar powered gable vent fans on each side. Farmtek.com apparently makes custom covers for these. Also, this would be built in Southern California. Before I go drop close to 10k on supplies and the cover to build this beast I figured I would see if I could get some feedback. Constructive criticism is welcomed.

Thanks

It sounds like a good idea I love the thought of it all. Do you think humidity or temperature will be a problem? Also how many plants are you considering growing in such a massive set up? Sorry if I can't give much imput im new lol. I like to learn though so any thoughts?

The county guidelines restricts growing to 12 plants per parcel. That would be what I would be stuck with at the moment. The customized cover is a film and you can open it up as needed. The 2 gable vent fans on each end (4 total) should do a great deal to help out.

The property I am buying has a private well that has been recently updated and is currently functioning. This was huge in picking out the property with the well known drought going on in Cali.

Well it sounds to me like you've put quite a lot of thought into this. It sounds like you didn't leave any room for error. Sucks about the restriction but times are changing so with hope soon ther emay be no restrictions. Where you considering Hydroponic growth or soil growth? Also im assuming it's for selling, or is it perhaps recreational? Just curious.

Well, Though assumptions can make fools of those whom use them it just seems like a lot of marijuana can be cultivated from it thus leading to the propaganda of selling. Though I was just curious.

What strains will you consider for your first grow?

Mainly just because I find the whole process exciting. Considering Skunk 11 or Green Crack on the first one.

Well with that passion your already a success! :)

I like your choices would you consider Critical Kush or even White Widow as well? Iv'e heard great things of them both maybe some Sour Diesel as well?

Maybe eventually. Those are my choices because they grow large and are really hard to fuck up. Since this will be a new climate for me I want to ease into it.

Sounds like a very large greenhouse for just 12 plants. Consider the extra expense of heating or cooling a greenhouse that large when only partially filled. If you're growing in California, check out the Carport thread in the outdoor section by doublejj. A couple of those and you'd be up and running about $9K cheaper. Good luck!

Running 1000 gallon pots bro. No offense intended toward doublejj but that greenhouse looks pretty janky. I want something solid and stable for years.

Do you really think I will have to cool it in the summer time? I can't imagine I'll have to heat it unless I run some through the winter.

That's some big pots! What will you daytime outdoor high temps be? You'll for sure need large amounts of air exchange and movement.

8x8, 2 feet deep. 18ft peak height in the center of the greenhouse. Going for trees, not bushes. ;)

Hottest month is July. Avg high of 102. I can open up the cover on it during the day. Also like I said, 4 solar powered gable vent fans (2 on each side). One side sucking air in, the other side pushing air out.

With no water cooling and just air exchange of 1X per minute, my greenhouse can run 15F degrees hotter than outside temps. I use a skin that blocks 10% of sunlight.

One of the advantages to those car port designs is the ability to remove all the walls and keep your temps much closer to outside temps.

I would recommend scouting out some greenhouses in your area and see if they are running evap cooling walls. This will give you a very good idea on whether you need cooling system or not. With your high temps, it will be something you need to research further. Most commercial greenhouse suppliers should be able to tell you what you can expect for your area and what you'll need to keep temp where you want it.

My customized cover (skin) will allow me to roll up the walls during the day. I am also putting a 6ft chain link fence with 5ft of walk room around the perimeter of the greenhouse with a 10ft drive in gate and barbed wire at the top.
