i have heard that if you pour a beer in a plastic cup and put it under your plants that it will attract the slugs and deter them from eating your plants. I have heard this method works for most pests, you can also try to buy some organic insect spray for vegetables and fruits. I have used this for spider mites and it worked really well. Hope i have helped.

Neem Oil for your plants. Totally organic.
hey, im also in NE and with the weather the way it is right now your going to have a shit load of slugs. what i use is Ortho snail & slug killer. if your growing in a bed, just sprinkle around the perimeter of the bed. if your growing in idividual holes, just sprinkle around the perimeter of each hole about
14" away from the base of your plant. this stuff works awsome, and you only really need to use it when your plants are small.

Best by far...

Use slug shields. They work and they last all season. Like, put them on and forget about slugs for the rest of the season. You can get them online and they ship quickly. They also stretch with plant growth. No brainer - they figured this one out for us. No maintenance!

I used them last season. My plants got eaten nearly to death - 90% gone in 2 nights! Put the shields on and two days later the leaves were growing again and continued to flourish - it stopped the slugs! Clear sailing the rest of the way.

I have used copper wire or rings around the base of the plant.. It is an excellent way to be worry free of slugs. No reapplication needed. just use 2 or 3 rings each of diffrent size to ensure the job gets done.

One thing you do have to watch out for is anything that is leaning or tied to your plant or even other vegetation that may be touching your plant when slugs are out.. the slugs will climb what they can to reach your plant.. I have seen them do it many many times.

the copper wire is fool-proof but ya gotta make sure nothing is touching your plant "up top"

Sweet....learn something new everyday. Copper wire as in household wiring?

Yes and I have seen them drop from above like on a kind of stringy stuff, like a spider would, from trees. I got lucky(if you can call it that) and saw one do it with my own eyes. I couldn't believe it.
