New Ebb and Flow system -

Just brought my ebb and flow system on line for testing. The 2'x2' tray is one I picked up at a hyrdo shop, but the reservoir is one I built out of an old Coleman cooler.

It is using a 285 gph pump. Is there any problem with running an oversize pump?

I am going to be using 4 6"x6" rockwool cubes. They are pre-soaking now, so I will be ready to start the 4 White Widows in the next few days.

The flood depth is about 2" per cycle for 15 minutes. That is the minimum "pin" duration of the cheap timer. Does this sound reasonable, or should I increase the depth a little?

How often should I flood the table? I have had three people tell me three different things in the past couple of days. I am leaning towards once per day when in seedling stage, and increase as they get going.

Everything is in a 39"x39"x72" tent under 600 watts of HPS and 400 watt MH. Pulling about 300 cfm of room air through the tent.

honestly, i found the most pain-free way of starting is using a starter plug in nursery flats, let her root thru then pop in the larger cubes, rockwool holds a ton of water, you may want to hand water as needed until a proper root system is established

i flood twice a day for 10min an hour after lights go on and before the lights go off. rockwool is like a sponge

Thanks guys. I am noticing the sponge action. I have the table running right now for testing and the cubes are freakin' heavy!

I am getting a few of those rooting plugs from a friend. The seeds are pre-soaking now.

Wow, you are not kidding about the water being held by rockwool! I have been flooding the table and cubes as the seedlings shoot root and it is pretty crazy. 5 hours after flooding and the cubes feel like they have let go of no water at all. I know that once roots grow throughout and lights provide a little heat that will change.
