New Cab New Grow

What up RIU?

I have been building my new cab to get my first real grow started. After some mishaps with my seedlings I have gotten a good start after battling my terrible carpentry skills.

Here are some pictures of the cab as it is being built. It is finally constructed and just needs the lighting and airflow figured out. I am not sure which to start with.

The cab is about 3 square feet.

My initial plan is to put four 1-1/4" holes at the bottom in each corner for passive airflow. And to start with one 120mm 89cfm fan at the top of the back panel for exhaust. I will be adding a homemade carbon filter to the exhaust and if I need to I can try to add a second exhaust if the carbon filter cuts down on the exhaust too much.

My plan right now is to be using CFL. They are affordable and easy to acquire.

This grow is stealth in the sense that obviously the cab will be visible but it cannot be known that MJ is in the cab. No light leaks and no smell leaks.

I will gladly answer any questions regarding the build or anything else.

I have some other seeds that I have ordered. I have an autoflowering blueberry but didnt want to put it on the same 12/12 light schedule since it was calling for 18/6.

I may germinate another seed when they get here hopefully next week. I will be moving in April so am trying to plan to be finished harvesting all plants before then.

Some mods have been made to the new cab.

I am at a dilemma. I am trying to figure out the best way to vent this cab.

I have tried to do some math, but with carbon filters involved I dont really know what to do.

Here is one of my ideas (See Pic). My other idea is to just have passive holes at the bottom. (The program froze up and I lost my template)

The top portion is going to be basically just for the light and will have its own ventilation. It will be sealed off from the bottom portion. It will have it's own Intake and Exhaust. Exhaust will get carbon filter if smell is coming out of the top portion.

The bottom portion will have one 4" fan with carbon filter. The question is whether to have one 4" fan for intake or to have passive intake at the bottom of the cab. If the answer is passive intake, I was going to put PVC 90 degree elbows. I was going to put one at each corner but don't know how big they need to be to have the right kind of pressure.

Thanks.

I finally got my cabinet completed.

Here are some pictures and a picture of my 2 week old Bubba Kush that I am waiting to put into flowering.

I still need to iron out a few tiny light leaks coming out of the door.

Ok, ok I like the creativity with your intake. But, you're going to need a much more powerful fan if you're planning to use a carbon fiter. But it sounds like you've figured that out already..If you can't swoop up a better fan you'll have to go with deodorizers. Ona blocks are cheap and some-what effective. Ozium spray is good, you can put it in one of those timed dispensers like you see the glade stuff in. Ona makes some spray too I think. The grow is fairly small scale so if you contain as best you can you should be fine. If it's out in the open for sure somebody will ask what it is. You should tack up a "skirt" around the the bottom so the intake tubes aren't showing. Just little strips of plywood painted to match the cab. Or whatever wood you have. Leave a little gap so air can still move freely, but the pipes are not exposed. Idk, a few cents.

I have a couple questions regarding your post.

You said I will need a more powerful fan if I am using a carbon filter. I am using a CF that I made and with the little understanding I have about carbon filters is that if I am pulling the air out slow enough for all of the air to pass over the activated carbon then the air coming out the other side should be free of smell. Why will I need a more powerful fan?

The intake tubes are actually not visible from the outside unless you get down on your hands and knees and look under.

The box is kind of large and can spark some questions, but I am going to paint it so it looks a little nicer on the outside and then stick it in a corner and it hopefully will just look like some sort of cabinet.

Thanks for stopping by and I can always use the critique and advice.

Here I am two weeks into flowering.

Does the smell continually get worse? My carbon filter isn't scrubbing enough of the smell and if it is gonna get worse I am going to have to invest in a better scrubber.
