Naah not at all. the grease falls into the coals and ash and pretty much evaporates.
I do make fire in it sometimes when it is cold, but it is pretty high off the floor so not effective as a room fireplace for heat.

One more question. Is it a metal or a masonary chimney?

Where do you get the wood from? What type of wood is available there? We have a lot of oak, walnut, and sometimes Almond wood.
