Neoprene Disk Hole Size

Hello I recently decided to switch from dwc to aeroponics and ordered neoprene disks to hold the plants in the bucket lids. How large should the hole be for a 2" neoprene disk for optimum efficiency? I have read from 1" to 1 1/2". I don't want the plants to fall over as they are going to be anywhere from 2-4' when finished growing. Also I don't want to squish the neoprene too much beyond what is necessary. Anyone have suggestions?

Thanks!

totally not meaning to derail your thread, but I read that topic as "Neoprene Dick hole" and immediate had some nasty thoughts in my head...but pleasurable ones... :D

What do you mean by hole size? Do you mean what size holes should you cut to hold your net pots? If so I found 1.7/8ths inches to be a snug fit. That is assuming you are using 2inch net pots. I used a 2inch hole saw, but the fit seemed too loose.

I was under the impression that I didn't need net pots, just the neoprene, so I didn't pick up any netpots. I was going to stick the neoprene directly into the Rubbermaid lid in a drilled hole.

I've done 2" inserts without a netpot, using a 1 3/4 hole for holding the plug. A 2" hole didn't work for me
either as it was still much too lose. The plants I've finished out in just a 2" neoprene were about 1.5-2' tall
without any issues, however I did have a bit of support for the plant besides just the 2" collar.

the roots will need something to rest on.... like a net pot with neoprene disk for support, and maybe rockwool if growing straight from seed. but if you clone via cloner, then once roots are long enough transfer to net pot with neo disk. the disk should support most of the weight until the plant grows bigger, then the weight will be mostly in the net pot, and the disk is just for lateral support.... thats the way i understand it atleast..... though i have seen guys use clay balls for medium.

well for this grow im going to try the neoprene without the net pots. If the plants start to sway ill tie em up. i want maximum root growth with no obstacles like a netpot, ive read this is the best way. I do realize a net pot wont produce much resistance but im gonna see if the neoprene supports the plants.
