Need some help! First time grower and I have some questions.

Just playing around with some seeds my dad got his hands on. I’m about a week in. Any suggestions? I used my garden soil from last summer to start the seedlings in And it’s taking off. I bought a bag of fox farm for when I’m ready to transplant the seedling but I’m just curious about when I should begin the transplant.

Looks fine

The pot looks a bit big but I could be wrong. If the pot is to big, it will start slow., until it grows in to the pot.

Seedlings have a tendency to do some weird things sometimes. They usually grown out of it, though. Water lightly, keep temps and humidity up. I like to start in solo cups as it's easier to regulate. Not sure if Fox Farm would be rec'd for first grow as it is a "hot" soil. I've never used but there's quite a few growers here that can help you on that front. Remember, it's just a plant at the end of the day.

thanks so much! I was kinda shook. It’s in a ziploc plastic container like for soups and what not. Not yo big but def. Bigger than a solo cup.

I heard about autos don't like to be transplanted, from 1 of the other growers I talked to, I transplanted but turned out OK for me

It depends on the auto. I have transplanted, topped, supercrop in the middle of flower, and have never had an issue.

I do both with seedlings. Big pot and solo cup. I think what hangs up alot of new growers is their watering habits. In a solo cup the top growth will develop a little quicker because the roots hit "the bottom" long before they would in a large container.

In large containers it doesn't look like the plant's doing very much,, and so they throw more Water at it in an attempt to help it. Not realizing that the soil isn't even close to dry deeper down towards the middle, even tho the surface is dry.

Autos are a bit more sensitive than photos, but any plant can be repotted. With autos I'd probably give it a little kelp and aloe to reduce any potential stress. But a gentle hand is all that's really needed.

Timing is important I feel with an auto. If you up pot to early, the rootball not being as developed can allow hunks of soil to fall off. And too late won't give the plant enough time to settle into its new home. Root mass and health is a direct reflection of yields.
And this is one of the big reasons I commonly will start in a spongy root cube and go straight into the final container.

yes, i too have found that going from a rootit cube to the final pot is the way to go, as you say, timeing is everything and doing this does take the guesswork out of the equasion. i use 3 or 5 galon pots for my autos, depending on how many i want under my light and which wattage im useing.
1 -2 plants uder a 250w mh, or 5 under a 400w-600w mh. ive just baught a 600w ml/hps combo light to experiment with flowering and to see if theres a big differance in flower prouction with the extra hps spectrum

Usually you transplant when the plant is wider than the pot but you can certainly grow a plant that's much larger than the pot.

Back when I was still using my 1kw HID systems I tried the 600hps/400mh combo bulb. It did produce very nice results. Stretch was minimal and I had really nice and tight stacking. The flowers didn't get a thick as only hps does, but they were so much more prolific. And the level of frost was incredible. Last 10 days I use a 10,000 Kelvin bulb for ripening. I have yet to find an led that will give that kind of results. Soo much frost, I swear, the trichomes had trichomes.

Most people use solo cups to start and transplant when plant is wider than the cup, and roots are seen coming out the bottom air holes. Transplanting autos is definitely ok. Doesn’t slow them down a bit in my experience, as long as the root ball stays in tact, and it should if following the above.
