Use the back of your hand as a test. Put the lights as close to the plants as possible. When the back of your hand gets hot, then its too close and back it up just a bit.

2-3 inches away from a CFL Florescent light bulb. They don't get too hot, but if you notice ANY yellow specs you better move your light up ^. :peace:

thank you! , and im not even sure what kind of light it is , but im growing one plant in a small box and i just put a 25watt natural light bulb in it , i dont know if its any good but its pretty bright , everytime i look at it i pretty much go blind but it doesnt creat alot of heat cuz i can touch it and it wont burn me but if i turn my fans off in the box it gets pretty warm

yeah i only got one bulb...here ill show you a pic an you can tell me what you think , you wont be able to see the bulb itself , the light pretty much looks like the sun when its on so id have to turn it off if you actually wanted to see the bulb its self , oh and i put my plant in rocks and in an actual pot. but check it.

Not a bad setup. Just a few suggestions.

You need to move the light closer. It may be bright to you but not that plant. It's doing everything it can to reach it. You will probably need more light to flower. That looks like a real good box for some CFL's. You would want 6500k for veg and 2700k for flower. Do some searching on this site, you will alot.

You will need to ventelate and circulate the air in there. Lots of ways keep looking around.

Hope this helps alittle.:peace:

thanks lol , but yeah , i just moved my light about 3 and a half inches from the top of my plant and i forgot to mention that i put 2 fans in , one in-take and one out-take , i was going to put in some tin foil on the walls but i did some re-search and i found that tin foil has hot spots so im kinda scetchy about that one

hey man, iv germinated only 3 times lol. first 2 times were fuk ups and streched just like yours. this is only because i used the standard bulbs you buy from your local hardware. they make them stretch, and give off heat. 3rd attempt was cfl (flourecent) compacts. they literally give no heat at all, and keep them 3 inches away from the seedlings. you l get much better result dude, hope this helps

yeah thanks lol , this is my first time actually doing it from seed , i usually just buy clones , and i just checked my light bulb an did some re-search online and i found out my light is a 6500k CFL , atleast i would think , i searched on google and they looked exactly the same , so i guess all i need to get now is a 2700k CFL for flowering and ill be good to go , or should i say good to grow! hahaa

I don't know exactly, but tin foil is thicker and holds more heat. I don't think it reflects as well either.

Just my thoughts don't quote me on this.:peace:

If you put the shiny side up on the foil you can get hot spots. I would recommend just to paint the inside white. Those black walls absorb light. You know if you bulb had a name like bright white, or daylight, or soft white? Normally daylight is 6500k and soft white 2700k. If I remember correctly bright white is somewhere in the middle and no good. You can get big clamp lights at lowes for six bucks. Just put in your cfl and plug it up. Here is a pic.
