NEED HELP WITH WIRING 70w HPS

exactly what the title says i bought one of those 70w hps units from home depot and was looking for a way to wire it to the wall outlet?

Get an extension cord and cut off the female end. Then just splice the wires and you're good to go.

Exactly what he said. Did the same thing myself. Wire cutters/strippers and wire nuts to keep the ends together and something to mount it to. I also was a bad boy and took the plastic housing off . Now if you do that make damn sure you don't touch anything with the bulb and don't get water on it while watering or "Blammo", the bulb explodes on you or a conflagration will ensue.

is there like a guide somewhere around here? i got the extension cord and the wires are different colors, and two of the wires on the ballast are silver and 1 is brass, and on the extension cord all three are brass is that bad?

White to white -twist and cap, black to black -twist and cap, then green to the brass looking unjacket wire- twist and cap. Finished. AC electrical wiring is da bomb.

Look into a modern 110v outlet and notice that slots that the blades of the plug fits into are of different sizes. The width of the plug blades are sized to fit exactly so that the plug can only be inserted one way.


The wide blade on the plug goes into the wide slot and to the white or chrome plated screw terminal of your device. There is usually some type of marking, lines or texture molded into the wide bladed/white side of an extension cord.

The skinny prong goes into the skinny slot in the outlet and to the black wire or to the brass plated terminal on your device.

The green or bare conductor is connected to ground.

buy a disposal whip and wire it that way..get some IDEAL wire nuts! you should be good to go..that bulb will only use abou 3/4 amp energy..you should be all good

when i was workin there they were pretty cheap but their bulb options sucked. i personally would just order from http://htgsupply.com or http://bghydro.com

Depending on the ballast type it will say the voltage on the wires(120V) (277V) etc...the wall socket is 120V so take the blk wire from the ext cord and hook it to that with a wire nut, Next find the wire marked COM and hook that to the white wire on the cord, then take the bare copper wire and hook it to the green on the cord...Put the plug together and you should be done! LMK if it works.
