Need Help with Strange Dimension Grow Room

I have a few questions regarding my grow room. It is currently in the conceptual stage, and I am trying to get an answer as to how limited my growing possibilities will be due to room design. It is important to note I am a first time grower and will continue to read and study this forum as best I can before beginning. This will be a "steath grow" and the targetted room is a crawl space on the second floor of an old home. In preparation, I have been cleaning this space out, which included removing insulation and other debris from my desired area. The area itself is secure as no one goes inside. It is also protected by a padlock. I would like to have both a veg and flower room inside this space. I am still figuring out details such as a source of power, however my main concern is with the dimensions of the space. The crawl space, being on the side of a room, is a right triangle. The tallest part being around 4 feet, which then sharply drops off until flush with the floor. The angle is probably around 45 degrees. The width of the floor is around 4 feet, and the length of the floor is around 5 feet. There are also roof supporting beams spaced on the ceiling, making the height of the room even shorter when taking into account the need to hang a ballast from these already lower beams. With the knowledge of having to space the 400 Watt HPS 18 inches away from the top of the plants, it seems my grow "room" is lacking in space.

That is just one issue, another being a wall covering. I am thinking mylar as I could staples these up from beam to beam where painting each beam etc would be a huge chore. As far as air flow, I will be running a dryer vent up through the attic and attaching it to the attic vents. Any idea what I will need to blast sufficent airflow upwards for about 10-15 feet of dryer vent?

I will go in there tommorrow and take some pictures. Right now it is very difficult to get in/out of because of all the work I have been doing as far as tearing down insulation, foam, trying to fix the unfinished floor, etc.

Well, you'll have to grow some short plants on a small scale, but it can be done. First thing, though, is to figure out how you are going to exhaust the hot air from that space. That small of an attic space can get hot quickly without any lights/ballasts/fans/pumps running.

Yes, I am going to run a dryer vent through a space in the slanted ceiling up into an attic and out a normal attic vent exhausting air outside. Any idea if smell control will be fine using this method? The exhaust coming out the attic would be from the side of my house, pointed towards the woods. Nearest house from that side is around 500 feet+ with woods seperating the properties. Also around 25+ feet up as the home is 2 stories.

Another question I have is concerning lights. I think to allow more plant growth, I will opt for CFL's(for the veg stage only at this point). My question is, I have found the 6500k spectrum CFL's(27 watt) at Home Depot, however I am confused as to how I would go about rigging 6-8 of these. Should I use the individual 150 watt capacity dome reflectors you can find at Home Depot for 5-6 dollars each? If not, how should I go about this? Another question is in regards to the power supply itself. Saftey is a main concern being in a tight space with lights running a majority of the day. Inside the potential grow room are wires leading to a power outlight that is in a bedroom. I would prefer to do something with this, instead of having to drill a hole in the wall with an extension cord plugged into a bedroom outlet leading to... the wall; that isn't very steathy! Would it be possible(easy and safe as well) to add another box INSIDE the grow room using these wires? Any other tips etc would be MUCH appreciated as I am trying to soak in as much as I can before I start. I think it is important to note that I am not much of a smoker, this is leaning more towards the hobby aspect and I would like to do everything as best I can.

There are online tutorials on home wiring, just becareful. You should get an electrician to guide ya throuhg it. But yea its possible you just splice into it using the same guage wire and a GFCI outlet.

Any input on how to line this room? There are 2x6's spaced every foot or so on the ceiling. How would this affect light reflection if they were painted white as well. Would mylar be more effective as I could cover the beams entirely on the ceiling, making a flat surface, or would it not be worth taking away the extra 6 inches in height I would gain by working around the beams? Thanks in advance to all replys

Just paint it white. You won't be losing that much light by doing so..
Besides that extra 6 inches could come in handy later on ;)

Welcome to the forum. The knee wall space you are talking about is not a good idea. its right under the roof you see and that space will be an oven in summer and a refrigarator in the winter. VV

By summer next year I won't be growing there. As far as it being cold during winter, it probably gets around 55-60 degrees at its coldest. It is right next to a large heated room and has heating pipes running through it for baseboard heating on the 2nd floor. It is also very well insulated, and with the addition of lights I would be willing to guess it will maintain a temp of around 70-75 during the cold months. Thanks for welcoming me and thanks for any comments.

I actually took a series of pictures a few hours ago while I was working on it. I ran in to a few issues with setting up a fake wall for easy access. Going to run to Home Depot and buy paint along with some sheets of plywood tommorrow morning. I will upload the pictures then. Thanks again for the assistance.

Heres an issue to keep in mind.In attics or such small dead space upstairs heat will be rough.I grew in my attic which was 10 feet tall by 30 feet long by 20 feet wide and heat is a bitch. You will want to insulate between the beams then use 1/2 inch white foam board to nail to the entire roof and walls in the grow are this will stop the shingle heat as temps shouldnt be above 80 degrees F and I know Im in a cool are but attic temps hit 109 often even with huge venting system. You will need to run an a/c line duct into the area to keep temps down.Your best bet is grow a mom take clones and toss short young clones right into veg at no more then 6 inches to get 12-18 inch plants at finish.Dont waste money on cfls get a simple 400 watt hps or 2 250 setup from homedepot.Cfls make too much heat and dont give off enough light for any decent bud and if you get enough to grow you just spent more then a 400 watt hps

Well going by all your posts. As far as taping into the wires. Not being mean. But you don't know what your doing. You could burn the house down. You need to take into consideration what else is on thst circuit. You can't just jump off of it and run lights. You'll be throwing breakers n stuff. Just save your money. Buy a tent and a LED light and then grow. Spend time while saving money researching how to grow and what to grow based on what size space you're gonna have. And whatnot. You are way to green to just start growing, cutting electrical wires, in a hot attic. Not being a dick. Just constructive criticism. I wanted to do the same as you when I started out. But I waited. Saved my money and got the right tools for the job. As you should do. Good luck though
