Need help with pruning / trimming plants

Hello,

I need some help. I'm concerned I let my sativa plants get too tall during veg (esp. since I was just out of town for 10 days during the holidays). I need some advice on any pruning/trimming I should do before I clone and switch to flowering (which I plan to do ASAP). Here's the scoop:

- 3 Casey Jones sativa plants, purchased as rooted clones on 11/8/09
- Plant 1 is 30" tall and fairly bushy
- Plant 2 is 48" tall - it's a beast
- Plant 3 is 38" tall and thin. Currently it can't stand up on it's own, keeps falling over. Gonna get a tomato trellis tomorrow unless someone advises otherwise
- Plant 1 and 2 have some leaves that have turned upside down because they grew too close to the walls

The room only has an 8' ceiling so my concern is that they will get too tall during flowering. And of course I want to maximize my harvest.

Plan to clone and flip to flower immediately... should I trim the plants first. If so, how (much)? Specifics are appreciated as I'm a newbie.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks. I am thinking some sort of topping is the way to go due to my height concern... But all the videos of topping I've seen show cutting less than 1". How much can/should I top these ladies?

you can cut the plant in half if you want to. meaning as much as you want, then cut clone from the tops.

I disagree! the top has the oldest hormones and is the hardest to clone. You can try to clone the top, but it could take a month before you even see a single root. Which means keeping them happy for a month while they try to switch their hormones from being a branch to being a plant.

true it is the hardest part to clone. its always worth the try though. cut back on the nitregon for a couple of weeks and give it a wirl
