Need help with ppm

okay well i have waited to post for awile! i have a sixteen bye sixteen foot room with 1000w under it is fiteen plants! i use the ebb and grow system! i raised the buckets up and inch. okay so here the problem i have the flood schedule set up to flood five times a day only when the lights are on! the nutreints im using is the FLORANOVA bye general hydroponics. now i have had the nutrients at 1660 ppm when i started! and it keeps raising up bye ten every flood cycle but my water level in the res is lowering buy a couple gallons a day? can anyone help me is this right or is this wrong? could my nutes be to high im not getting the rapid growth that i expected im in week three, in the veg stage and they are a little over a foot and a half tall havent got much growth in the last week. they arnt getting nut burnt or showing any deficentcys that i know of? can someone help or em i just tripping?

How are you testing ppm? 1000ppm just seems way high for week 4. You want to only be around 500 to 700ppm tops. Discounting the ppm out of the water. So if your tap is around 200 lets say you want your ppm/meter to read 700-900ppm. because 900ppm (water & nutes) - 200ppm (water) = 700ppm (nutes) total. Correct me if im wrong, but thats how I read mine.

I have a hanna continuosly ppm meter. my parts per million is only 60-70 ppm straight outta The tap. they say that we have purest tap water in the state that i live in. We had it at that much 770ppm for a week then when i changed my res i bumped it up to a thousand ppm ! changed it agein every week! i dont care if im throwing my nutes away!! better then throwing my plants away i look at it! but i still dont know why its doing this unless the plants are eating equal parts as water? just dont make sense to me? i keep the temp at 85 with the bad ass sentinal contorlor box humidity is up to 50 rh i just dont know why they have taken a break?

I believe you are watering to often. What is the media in the buckets? Hydroton? Coco? Soil? Got any pictures? I grow in rockwool cubes and during veg, I water only twice a day during daylight.

It is normal for the ppm's to slightly rise, slightly drop or remain the same... I repeat --- "SLIGHTLY" A change of 10 ppms per day is hardly any change at all. I would not worry about that little change.

Also, I tend to agree with SIV3L that your ppm's seem a little high to start of with... but they would typically get nute burn rather than just stop growing. Stunted growth is almost always " to much watering". They need a breather.

Remedy: Depending on the type of media you are using... try not feeding them for a whole day, then look at them, if they look droopy, then feed them. If they look the same hold off for another 1/2 day or whole day. Then when they look like they need feeding, just feed them twice a day... or maybe three times a day. It really depends on the health of the plant and the type of media they are in.

Cheers

85 is bit warm during veg and the rh a bit low. But really... I think the watering schedule along with too high of ppms is the real issue. My veg room runs at 74 with 65 - 70 rh.

I would like the rh a little higher but got too small of a humidifier! ohh well and the temprature is a little high for my liking to its just hard to maintain such a low temprater with the co2 gen in the room puts out alot of heat. I use hydroton. thanks for the help though!! i think i just stare at them too much for them to look like they are doing any thing u know like if u try to watch water boil they say it will never boil!! or im just way to stoned!! but im going to change the res and lower the parts permillion back down a bit and see if they start getting bigger and bushier! but i dont know if this is the problem or not casue im not burning them and the water level is getting smaller. but it is my first time! so i dont know?

Just to let people know i lowered my nutrient levels down to 700ppm! and changed my flood time to three times a day and holly sh*t they are getting more growth just after a day!! thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!

Excellent! Glad all is well.

BTW... With C02, lower to mid 80's is fine for temp. I used to grow with hydroton and in veg, feeding 3 times a day was perfect. When I moved to flower, I up'd it to 4 times a day and even 5 times a day when, in the summer, the temp was higher and the rh was really low. Kinda depends on your enviroment.

I also up'd my ppms gradually to about 1000 toward the end of veg and as high as 1200 to 1300 in the midst of flower... then at the end I lowered it down to about 1000 again... kinda like a bell curve. Remember those (bell curves) from school?

Oh Yeah! I also use the sentinel controler CHHC-1

Good luck to you bro.

Good to hear that fixed your problem. As a general rule if ppms rise and the water drops, its taking very little, to no nutes. Drop the ppm. And there may be salt build up on the roots and that will rise the ppms. (from to high of a ppm)

Peace love

George

thanks for the help its helping alot . man i should have asked but doing good for first go around lol i have the sentinal box that controls everything so i think the only reason every thing is still good is because of that !
