can-fan filters are the most reputable and work great too from what I hear. They are larger filters and a bit more expensive.

MMaybe the veg room is putting out odor. Ahhh the pains of growing sometimes.

mine is about that. my filter is about 2' x 18". my cfm is near perfect for the filter i use, so i don't adjust at all. if yours is too high, fix that.
