Need help with odor problems

I ordered two 4x4 tent kits last year and they came with everything you need to grow although i did upgrade the 600 hps to 1kw's. The ventilation is perfect as temps never get beyond 79 degrees at highest and usually stay 70-75. I noticed about through mid flower and definitely in full flower you can smell the girls outside of the house and i do not like that one bit. I ordered separate block buster hoods and the seems had a little opening to them and i sealed all leaks right away which helped to some extent. The filters are cheapos but look really nice and everything came from growace.com. My only assumption cones down to it being cheap filters? They are 6 inch filters but maybe i need a bigger one? Could someone help me out?

i've read repeatedly that replacing the carbon in filters, by no means rejuvenates them to like new. i think it has something to do with the packing of the carbon. w/o the factory equip. a customer can't renew it to it's factory effectiveness. i have read that washing the carbon in your filter is way more effective. kinda like hosing it off...

I have tried refilling with fresh carbon and it did not work for me. Never pondered washing the whole filter. Interesting...

You need a new filter. Cheapos only last about 6 months from my experience.

One tip I have come across is to saran wrap half of the carbon filter. Then in a year or so, remove said wrap, then saran wrap the portion not wrapped previously. Essentially doubling the life of the filter. Makes sense since the carbon is only activated in the portion of the filter which air flows through. Anyone else use this technique?

Im kinda thinking that the air is being pulled too quickly through the filter as my 440cfm fan is first and connected straight to the filter. If this is the reason id rather not re arrange my setup because this is the only way i tried and it didn't increase temps. All other methods i used increased temps. Is therea way i could slow down air flow or would this even be what could possibly be causing it?

Have you checked That your ducting is all sealed tight? The ducting I got with mine had a ton of pin holes in the aluminum(very cheap). Got better ducting and it cleared the air LOL.

how is the smell making it outside? should just do yourself a favor if you don't want to deal with smell outside anymore completely, sounds like you already have a nice show on the road, so why not kick it up a notch and seal the room and run some co2.. a window unit ac with recirculate, simple atlas 7 controller and a bottle.. better nugs and no smell outside

if your cfm is exceeding the max for the filter it will be VERY ineffective. It is either that your airflow is not all going through the filters, or your filters are garbage.

I bought the cheapest 440cfm/carbon filter combo I could find. And I must say it definitely has a lot of room for improvement in the odor control department though. Any one have any suggestions for a good odor controlling filter that is 6" and rated for a 440cfm?

i was thinking the same thing. most filter makers (the gooder ones anyways) suggest specific cfm fans to accompany their specific filter, makes sense...

Would you think that it would make any difference if i wrapped screen (window screen) around the filter to slow down air flow?

Btw i have noticed the little pinholes in the ducting so i ordered a good rated duct and it has the same. But upon closer examination those pinholes have a film over them so i couldnt see odor getting through them but, I could be wrong. I do have a closet separate from the flowering tent that i veg in but rarely do I veg too long they either go to flower room within a couple of weeks or in the ground. Could it be the veg room that's causing the odor? I do have several clones in there and seed plants that's in there third week of growth and that room just has floros and no filter or anything. Just a fan to keep circulation moving.

what CFM is your fan? i use a 340 CFM fan with a good deal of resistance on a 400 cfm filter and it works well. Phresh filter.. was about 100 bucks for a 6 x 16 filter.
