need help with lighting ?????

okay i have a 400 watt hps/mh lamp and ballast and it came with a hps bulb only, now i have a 400 watt mh bulb that i got from work, would that bulb work in my lamp ??, or is there a certain kind of bulb i would have to buy??? thanks for the help RIU this is the best site i have ever found!!!!

yes it will work, although you need to check, that the bulb is meant for use with an external ballast, it should do, its pretty rare to find the bulbs with the internal ignitors in them in the UK and Europe they have an I and an E symbol, not sure if thats the same in the usa etc
they have an I symbol in a triangle on the bulb, for internal lignite
regular bulbs have an E symbol for "external" or external ballast

also. you have to check weather the bulb is meant to be used in a non protected enclosure .. if you got it from work, was it in a reflector that was protected by glass?
bulbs that are not rated for open reflectors can be dangerous if they blow and shatter

I would say yes you can. But take in to account what Skunk said. if it was enclosed when you jacked it, its enclosed for a reason.
