Need help with how to harvest for hash---whole plant?

I posted this under "harvesting,.." and didn't get responses, so thought I'd try here.

Last year, I read a lot (I'm pretty sure I did.....can't seem to find it this year :p) about harvesting the whole plant when you want to make hash. I have always cut branches off short enough to hold when dry trimming, and have thrown away fan leaves/kept sugar leaves. Last year I kept a baggie full of fan leaves, but that was all. We had mold/spider mite/ yellow leaves/ etc problems, so I hadn't researched enough about saving what I did have of the fan leaves, etc.
I also don't have a large freezer, if it has to be frozen; only a freezer above the refrigerator. I was all ready to make bubble hash, but never got the nerve to use that much cannabis at one time. I only ended up with 7 plants, and got only about 2 1/2 oz average each.....small buds/ worst year ever for me.

So, if someone can explain to me, or direct me to instructions how to do this, I sure would appreciate it!

thanks!

The stems and fanleaves have trichomes, but they are fewer and typically more mature and sedative than the trichomes on the flowers and sugar leaves, so we extract them separately and use the concentrate for different purposes.

You can always experiment with small quantities until you get it right.

Neither dry sieve, nor bubble process will remove all the trichomes before greening out due to plant material pickup, so you will need to decide what to do with the partially spent material from the process.

Here is how we did it: https://graywolfslair.com/index.php/diy-cannamed-production/9-4-extraction/9-4-17-extracting-oil-from-fan-leaves-and-stems

thanks, however, I'm looking to make something stronger....hash...... I read many places before---just can't find them now---will try again!
They showed harvesting bud/sugar leaves/fan leaves/small stems/maybe larger stems-don't remember for sure--- thought was whole plant except roots....FOR HASH. I need it strong enough to sleep.
I guess I'm on my way to google a lot & look on YouTube. thanks again.

Post if you find anything.
I got busy & didn't look yesterday. Had to spray for spider mites. ughh. thought I might get away without getting them this year, and found the little white spots on all the leaves on all plants on Friday.
I'll write it down so I don't forget :p, and will look today.

No hurry.
Never found anything that shows using more of the plant than the buds & sugar leaves. I saw some videos where they had big bags of leaves, but didn’t use them :?.....go figure. I did see where someone actually scraped the small amount of tricks they found on fan leaves.....can you imagine all that work for hardly any results?

I also almost ran out of weed before we harvested the first plant (it matured about 2-4 weeks before the rest; I think due to stress. It wasn’t very thick/only produced 2.4 oz of dry bud/bud&sugar leaf mix total! It was 7 feet tall, but had a lot of skimpy branches. Anyway, when I thought I was going to run out of something to make hash/tincture with, I made some tincture with some mix of leaves I saved in the freezer from 2017. I think some were even ‘almost’ fan leaves ;). At any rate, it tasted terrible.....like lawn grass. It worked on the nausea a little. I had to use more and It only lasted a short while, but better than nothing. Then I made some out of sugar leaves I saved last year. It tastes awful, too, but works a little better.

I accidentally let them hang too long & when I cut the buds they were already at 51%, so too dry to cure. I watched a video before taking them down...big mistake! I’ve been doing this 5 years now & should have trusted my own judgment....I will next time.

It was White Widow, and is very smooth to smoke. Much nicer than the year-old stuff I’ve been using! When we get a few more plants, we’ll make the bubble hash. I bought the bags 2 years ago in Nov, but the harvest was so bad last year, I didn’t want to try it using so much cannabis.....just in case it didn’t come out. I’d be in big trouble. This year, I have plenty :D.

sorry it took me so long to answer. I looked for this thread last week & didn’t find it & got busy.

take care :peace:

Imo,
Fan leaves and stems contain very little THC. I remember reading somewhere that it's around 4% of the total THC in the plant.
Personally, when I do what I call a whole plant extract, I toss fan leaves, stems, and tips of the sugar leaves. It usually goes from live plant to the washing machine in a few hours.
If you really want/need to get that last little bit I would suggest a solvent extract of some kind. Be it ethenol, isopropyl, or butane ( if you are comfortable with that) is your best bet for getting the most from those parts of the plant.
If you make old school hash from your lower grades of bubble hash you could then add the hash oil you get from your solvent extract to the hash to make what I've always called jelly hash. I believe that jelly hash got it's start in the late 60s or early 70s when the hippies were buying hash faster than the hash producing countries could supply it. They started adding hash oil to the lowest grades of hash to make it better.
Just my two cents, take it with a grain of salt.
