need help on choosing a light

i was gonna get a 600 watt hps/ 600 watt mh but wondering if its gonna be to big for my area rough estimate is 3x3 by 5 feet tall will it burn my plants should i just use the 400 watt hps not sue any advice would be much appreciated

The 600w is quite a bit more efficient. Seems perfect for your dimensions. You'll need a cool tube or similar.

honestly you should consider florescent's for the veg part of that grow its more than capable of supporting that area.
way less noise.... and a lot cheaper in electricity. flowering i would go with the 400 metal halide that may even be
more then you need. get a t5 florescent you will be surprised what kind of monsters its capable of growing.

well the setup that i want to get is a 6 inche cooled reflecter will that be good i figured haveing bigger light in small area will give me more yield is this true

I was using 42w cfl's, but by the time I had 9 of them in there I was using almost as much electric as a 400hps and also as much heat. So I took them out and put the 400 hps in. Mine does not seem very noisy, but if you get a digital ballast you wont have that problem. And they (the ballast) does not heat up like the magnetic ones. And use HPS for flower not MH.
