Ok so I just moved out my folks house and im ready to start growing and yes Im growing in an apartment and I know its risky but i've read a few people have gotten away with this and my apt.complex doesnt have much traffic around so im not very worried as i am not working at the moment and will be monitoring plans most of the time. My biggest concerns are ventilation, smell, and stealthiness . I live on the first floor and Im trying to decided between a cabinet or a tent. My main goal is to be able to grow quality bud on a decent budget seeds so far are...barneys g13 haze, red dragon, lsd, utopia haze, greenhouse lemonskunk, ladyburn 1974. im only planing on growing 2 plant maybe 3 at a time. Right now im leaning towards a a 400w light but I've also read that your light bill could shoot up and cause suspicion so I might suggest CFL. Now my biggest concern is odor and yes i know i know, carbon filter but from what i understand please correct me if im wrong the air that is pulled through the carbon filter and pushed to the outside will stink like crazy wont it? If so is there away that the exhausted air can be masked to not cause suspicion. I have an exact blue print of my apt. I can show you guys but honestly I need ideas. What would you guys do? Where would you run your vent ducting? Would you use cabinet or tent in this situation? Whats the best grow area in my case?

The red box you see is a vent hole from my washer and dryer. That vent whole leads to the front of my door were people have to walk to enter their apartments(this goes back to my question on how to mask exhausted odors).

Carbon filter will eliminate odor but the fan is going to be about as loud as a window AC unit. I would use a tent due to their portability. Check link in my sig. Its a ladyburn 1974 growing in a GL60 with twin 250watt HPS lights this setup allows me to grow some killer bud and the Ladyburn has a decent stink to it.

will the carbon filter eliminate the odor vented outside?
you mind showing some pics of your tent setup and I see your using hydro farm hows it treating your lady? I wanted to go the waterfarm route but i dont know much about hydro and how to maintain the sytem at correct levels and all.

a carbon filter (properly sized) will eliminate all odors. no smell outside
I will disagree w/ Ceejr on a tent, a locked box would be safer as maintance people wont be able to see what is inside if they happen to be working in your apartment when you are not around. a tent is obvious to any who enter the room its in.go lights out during the day when most "guests" will be likely to stop by so the fans are not running and a box will not seem unusual.

When I decided to grow in my first apartment I went to the land lord and told him I lost my key's and needed the extra set to get some cut, I then returned the extra key that I had altered with a file so that it would not open the lock!
This made sure that I was the only one that would have access to my new pad.

ok so do you guys think it would be a good idea to move my dryer(dont need it) and vent through the front of my house (people have to walk in front of that vent whole to enter their apts. or should i just vent in another room in my apt.?

I would vent into another room.venting out front may work but during flower, the smell will increase and may overwhelm the filter.

Growing in an apartment is a very very bad idea. If you do make sure your plants are very easily moved. A landlord can come any time as long as they give 24 hours notice.

I'd say a stealth cab. Throw an aquarium or desktop computer on it and it will either cover up the sound or misdirect people as to what the sound is from. In a cab you can use the quiet pc fans through a carbon filter. I've seen great stealth book cases and desks.

If it's a space around 30 inches tall you might look into running vertical pl-l lights, also known as 2g11 socket. They are more efficient than the t5's I believe and can be easily ran vertically to light the entire height of your plant and place inside a t12 tube cover to keep the plants from touching the bulb itself. They run fairly cool and save you hassle from having to move cfl bulbs around constantly.
