need help finding out what type of light i have.

ok i got a free 400w light dont know if its a HPS or MH its one of the older factory type lights no bulb came with it its a G.E light says 120v damp type. how do i tell what type it is? if a put a HPS bulb in it to try it will it blow up on me? any help would be nice thanks!!!

does it have a ballast?

if its blue colored its m/h if its orange glow its hps

ahhh ok then yeah it should tell you on the ballast.

are you talking about just the bulb?
If your not sure what is is then you wont know how long its been used ofr even how longs left in it.
Just get a new one a sthey are not that expensive

its a ballest 400w but it dont say if its a MH or HPS its gray and nope no bulb came with it there is some writing on it but all it says is what wire is for what and says 120w damp light. it dont say what type it is man this sucks!!

get a bulb and try it if u got a ballast
it wont blow up

its a MH lamp i found it on the net. is it worth useing for budding? i have a 400hps but its tide up right now can i use the mh for budding then switch over tho hps when its done being used at the other place? or should i stay with the cfls till im ready for the other light. never used a mh before that why im asking.

MH is fine to use in flower, some growers prefer metal halide instead of hps. Some say it gives you a better quality bud

m/h buds, and cfl buds tent to look prettier, but the density is with the hps!!!
