Need advice on water only grow...

I am in the middle of my first ever hydroponic grow. It has been as advertised. Explosive growth, quick response to changes, lots of meters... lol.

Anyway, I will have time for one more grow at my current residence and after this foray into hydro I'm long to go back to what I'm comfortable with... soil. What I'd really like is to try 'super soil' grow. As close to water only as possible is what I'm looking for. I've always used commercial soil (FF mostly), but after this hydro run I'm looking for maximum simplicity. I'm obviously familiar with Sub's recipe, but since I've never delved into this world I'm wondering what the current 'go to' is. I'm a blank canvas for all you folks who do it right.

Sub's recipe just has too much going on imo, and i'm not into guanos or blood/bone meals (with the fish exception). they're just too soluble and nasty to be around anyway (not to mention you don't know where that shit comes from.... cattle industry??? no thank you) I'm not saying sub's recipe don't work... cause obviously it does!

Basically you build your base mix: 1 part peat, 1 part aeration (perlite, pumice, lava rock, ect), and 1 part HIGH QUALITY compost (home made EWC, Worm Power EWC, home made compost, bu's blend, ect)

then you can put together whichever amendments you want to. I use crab meal, neem meal, alfalfa meal, gypsum, oyster shell flour, fishbone meal, insect frass, kelp meal, all at 1/2 cup per cu.ft. of soil.

water in with compost tea and let sit for 30 days turning occasionally. ready to go

I've found that my recipe is a little light in the K department, so i picked up a "bloom boost" that is high K and only use it when i transplant into the container i'll be flowering in, and also top-dress it once or twice in flower.

if you look in the ROLS thread, there are lots of recipes/advice/ideas and there are lots of good soil recipes in other threads too. just gotta do a little digging.

Good Luck!

Thanks for taking the time to respond! I've got about 2 and a half months until I harvest my hydro grow, and every recipe I've seen for any kind of organic super soil seems to take 30 days or so to cook, so I'll be doing research and taking recommendations for the next month and half or so and id love to keep this thread going. The more info and options the better.

yeah you need time because the amendments are only broken down by microorganisms (i'm sure you are familiar with this already). so what happens is you make your mix, and microbes go to work breaking stuff down. in that time period they are also helping to stabilize the ph of the soil. Water only is the way to go... never going back to bottles ever again. what a flippin pain.

That is why I wanna try this method. No bottles sounds like heaven to me right now. Looking forward to putting the work in on the front end so I can sit back and watch the magic happen with minimal tinkering and fuss on the back end.
