Hey everyone, I'm relatively new to the grow for personal consumption biz. I have several things to ask in multiple threads, don't want to make multiple posts so I'm asking everything in this one.
I seem to be having an ongoing issue with thrips in my grow room and flower room and some minor spider mite issues on few plants in my flower room. I do have fans going 24/7 in both rooms. I'm treating both with thrips spray, one and a half oz of isopropanol alcohol and two tsp of dawn dish soap to one gallon of water, spraying every few days. Doesn't seem to be helping alot. Question is there a better treatment that will kill them dead or is it safe to jack up the amount of alcohol (should I use everclear) and/or increase amount of dawn?
Defoliation; I do it when fan leaves get big and also when leaves get dried up or sickly looking. How much defoliation is too much? I lollipop my grow room plants when they get about two feet tall. I leave them for awhile, then kick them into flower. My friend says I'm wasting time, they should go into flower room at about 22". I tried that, and the plants don't seem to be growing nearly as well as my first batch where I let them get to 3-4' tall before going to flower. Is it ok to just lollipop the plants, take out the first big batch of fan leaves and then leave plant alone/stop defoliation?
I freakin love cannabis, mainly for the CBD oil, as I have chronic joint pain. Best painkiller ever. I don't smoke cannabis and am not crazy about edibles. I do have people I legally grow for and I'm concerned about amount of cannabis I use in my edibles. I make squares, date squares, rice Krispy, brownies etc. To a 8"square cake pan, I use a one pkg brownie mix. To that I add 7gms of decarboxylated cannabis. Is this enough cannabis to use; I really want people to get a helluva buzz off the squares and I'm thinking of jacking up the amount of cannabis I use.
I'm also making tinctures, my first batch I started about a week ago. To 7cups of everclear (spread between three sealer jars) I used 3oz of decarboxylated cannabis bud. Is this enough to use? Like the edibles, I want the tinctures to have an ass kicker effect, so I'm considering increasing the amount of cannabis. How long would you recommend I leave the cannabis to infuse before I filter and bottle the tincture? How much THC/CBD is left in the cannabis mash, is there any reason to keep the cannabis once tincture is filtered?
I want to start doing CBD oil as well. I have a process for it already which involves putting cannabis in a slow cooker with a couple cups of coconut oil. Again, I want an immediate kick ass effect. I'm thinking of using a big unit, a rice cooker with a bit higher heat. Is there any issue with producing the CBD oil at high heat. If so, what heat should I do it at and for how long? I'd like to jack up the amount of cannabis I use. How much should I use for a blotto effect? Is there any benefit to keeping the cannabis once it's been infused into the oil and is filtered? Is it true the THC is killed off/evaporated during this process and all that is left is the CBD? If so, and I want to tweak the CBD oil with a touch of THC, could I take the filtered CBD oil and re-infuse it with more decarbed cannabis? If I can, how much cannabis should I add and for how long should I let it infuse?
Decarboxylating; should I only decarb cannabis I intend to use in tinctures, edibles and oils?
That's about all I have for now. I'm sure I'll have more to ask later, but for right now, if I could get some input from you all on these questions, I'd appreciate it. 69Jack69
