No, but the state you are in definitely matter! Here in WA people don't pay a lot of attention to cannabis, and selling grow gear is very common. I'm sure there are "cannabis cops" (yes, we really have these) who troll for dummies who try to trade weed for gear. I've seen lots of suspicious ads that were probably rip offs or cop bait. Gotta watch out for stolen gear too. And never meet at your house -- always in a public place.
If I lived in a state that didn't allow cannabis of any kind, I wouldn't even drive my car to the grow store and would even be careful buying stuff online.
