Need a new TV!

So I just went upstairs to make sure the mom in law is ok and I look at the TV and it has a picture and a picture offset to it in red,,,it's a Toshiba 42 inch projection model,,over 10 years old ,,I hit the auto focus button and it focuses the colors until it gets to red and the lines focussing are usually straight but for the red part the lines are screwed,,,it's been a good TV otherwise,,anyway,,any thoughts or ideas on what brand to go with next,,I don't want wireless,,I don't wanna talk to it,,or wave my hands around and shit ,and I don't want a plasma TV,,what TV's being made today are a good bang for the buck,,,50-60 inch?

I think mine is a 46" vizio- I got it because it had 4 hdmi inputs. It's pretty nice and it was cheap too if I remember, around 400.

in the states or canada,or elsewhere,,,I'm in Canada,prepared to spend a thousand or two on something good

You'll prob be able to find something better now but it's a really good TV. I got it about 6 months ago now.

we got a Costco but I was thinking Best Buy or Futureshop,,,and I have seen Visio's at Best Buy,,more concerned with what to go with ,,LED ,LCD,and all that blah blah,,,it's been over ten years since I had to buy one

I have a couple led tv's and I'm happy with them, Samsung and sharp brands. I think sony makes the best but they are considerably more expensive.

Just look for the best resolution and fastest refresh rate within your size and budget. LED is your best bet for energy savings and reliability. There is no real difference in an led screen and an LCD other than the backlight. LCD TVs use a old school tube floro bulb for a backlight where leds use a strip of led bulbs for the backlight.

Also, there aren't that many companies that make screens. All the tv companies buy screens from the same hand full of manufacturers. What is normally sacrificed in cheaper tvs is resolution, refresh rate, or sound quality.

If your gonna pay that much make sure you get wifi. Also the size of your room matters. 50" is great to about 15 feet.
