you can take a cell phone charger and just cut the end off that goes into the phone. Then splice it to the wires from the fan. There should be one red wire, and one black wire. Its a 12v ac adapter.

well i don't know nothing about hps lighting systems, when you the whole kit do you mean the bulb and the reflector? i can make my own reflector so i prob just need the bulb and the bulb fitting, or is there more involved?
also im using soil

you will need a bulb, fixture, ballast, & reflector... I got a 250w from ebay. it was 150 USD... Its cheaper and easier to just save up and get the pre built setup. Its easy to start a fire with HID lighting. Check out HTG garden supply

you will need a ballast to run a hps bulb. when i got mine i though that you could just get a mogul base(fixture) and a bulb and plug it in... but you cant, thats where the ballast comes in. HPS bulbs are meant to run of of 240-270 volts which is way more than the wall outlet so it needs a boost to get it running and regulate the current so there are no fires...

An electrical ballast (sometimes called control gear) is a device intended to limit the amount of current in an electric circuit.
Ballasts vary greatly in complexity. They can be as simple as a series resistor as commonly used with small neon lamps or light-emitting diodes (LEDs). For higher-power installations, too much energy would be wasted in a resistive ballast, so alternatives are used that depend upon the reactance of inductors, capacitors, or both. Finally, ballasts can be as complex as the computerized, remote-controlled electronic ballasts now often used with fluorescent lamps.
