Sure np. It works well as preventative measure. Not sure if there are already bugs present. And not sure how many insects i would consider beneficial. It does not harm the soil food web at all. My understanding is de works because its sharp and jagged edges literally rip open any gnats or bugs trying to reproduce. And most of the reproduction is happening in too few inches of soil. So thats why a top dress seems to work well. Your outdoor or indoor?

btw for fungus gnats use nematodes, the steinernema feltiae. If you re-use your soil it might be the very last time you have to deal with gnats.
