My Very Very First Grow!

Hello All,

I just started this endeavor, and I was inspired by many on this site who decided to have their own grow.

My goal is to make my own supply that can alleviate my anxiety and to provide a good introspective view, and to produce something of high quality using a scientific approach because it may help in learning overall production methods (outside of growing), as i am a business student.

I have design a 3stage (Germination&Seedling/Veg/Flower) grow box out of 2x2 lumber and 12/32 plywood. My Intentions at the structural design phase is to seal the box from any unwanted air/light seepage.

I have used foam sealant around any gaps i could find.


I have some issues to overcome. I am gonna use panda film But my Question is what type of insulation should i use? in-between compartments.

Any help will be appreciated, again i am super super new but super super exicited

I used 1.5" rigid foam insulation, my box is plywood too and it works pretty good.

Thanks guys the rigid foam idea sounds great as i was debating that method before hand

That 3 chamber setup is great and it is similar to what i am gonna set up. Which ventilation method did you use?

I currently have a hydrofarms 165 cfm snail fan for intake and I use a soler palau 300cfm on the top of the box for the exhaust. My temps have been 68-75f durring the day and stay around 65f when the lights are off at night. the current ambient temperature in my are has been mid 70's (day) and 40's-50's @ night. I've noticed a bit of negative pressure in my box recently so I will be cutting another 6" vent hole in the bottom of the box to improve circulation. I will cover the hole with a thin carbon filter/screen ( the kind that's used for stove exhaust hoods)

Brilliant, i was thinking of using a passive intake design. 4 or 6 inch exhaust with an air scrubber. I am looking for a temp range between 70f and 80f. I am thinking of having the fan cycle off if the temps drop below 70. I do know that if you use co2 you can trap some of the heat in.

But we will see

I'll be watching with interest. Good idea with the foam sealant. That's an idea that I might have to steal!

UPDATE: Insulation is going swell 85% complete. Up next is Ventilation




Tip: For those who want to use the foam sealant to seal gap please use a small continuous bead, if you use excess foam sealant you will have issues installing the rigid foam panels.

Remember Small continuous bead.
