my very first grow

Hey everyone. I have been reading and learning for a while now. I have decided to go with a 400 watt hps and ballast kit prob from htg. I have read a lot of good things about fox farms nutes and can get tjem prerty cheap on ebay. My grow room is in my man cave the grow area is about 5 x 5.6 x 8 feet I'm going bleach every thing down and line every with thick black plastic and mylar on inside I'm going to be making my own charcoal filter and see how well that works. Now what I need help with is strain and grow method I was dead set on trying a hydro dwc setup with maybe 2 20 gallon rubbermade tubs with two plants each. But after readinseemson coco it seems its much. Less of an hassel and I can get similar yeilds compared to hydro plus its cheaper. I was thinking about using 3 or 5 gal buckets and hand watering . " any input on this is greatly needed".
Can fox farm nutes be used on coco or should I uses coco nutes that I hear are more expensive?
next I was thinking 6-9 plant " input neded" and I can't seem to decide on strain either for the last year I have been smoking sour diesel, various types of kushes and haze's and other fruitty types that I can't identify ...lol but Im tired of paying street prices. I know I want to grow something similar. But everytime I look at a new seedbank I usually hear a bunch of nad things about them or the breeders they carry. But I'm a noob so I don't know whats what. My seed. budget isabout 50-75 dollars I want at least 3 or 4 different strains and want to get fem seeds so can people anyone with insight please suggest a reliable seedbank or breeder don't want to end up with garbage seeds or not get my order. Any little tip or info will greatly improve my knowledge thanks so much everyone for taking the time to read

If your new to growing I would either use coco or soil, alot easier and more forgiving. as for strain what exactly are you looking for in finished product? type of smell, taste, high, length of high, yield and so on... I have grown a few strains over the years and might have some input for you.. the strains you mentioned are great ones but they are a bit tricky to grow. And I would also recommend getting them from attitude seedbank, I ordered from them before and was completely happy with them and they seem to be one of the most reputable seed banks out there

Start with soil. And don't waste the money on mylar. White plastic works just as well. You will not find feminized seeds in your price range. You would be able to buy clones for that much. I bought my seeds through this company. http://www.amsterdammarijuanaseeds.com/index.php . I bought feminized seeds and they were all female. I wasn't jerked around. Also, Indicas are easier to grow than sativas.

I know very little about coco but what I do know is that you need to be careful which you buy since it needs to be leeched. Likewise, I know nothing of coco nutes, just that they are mostly formulated for coco. What I would say about nutes is to go for a nute line designed for MJ, such as Canna, Advanced Nutrients, General Hydroponics, Duch Master etc. Seed choice, I love White Widow and every Mandala strain I have tried has blown my mind with its taste & quality but my growing is for medicinal purposes not rec. The great thing about Mandala is they are very easy to grow, hardly need any nutes and are great for either SCROG or SOG. Peace W

I just ordered and started growing greenhouse's ww and its really easy to grow.. as for food it's mostly personal preference, you can use just about any food with coco that you want. You might wanna think about soil growing, really simple and hard to fudge up.. Skunk strains are real nice too and I would say 90% of strains out today have skunk somewhere in their bloodlines

Plus the ww i'm growing roots in 4 days so If you ever wanna learn to clone you won't be disappointed with it

Im a first time grower and im using coco.... should i buy seeds or clones???

Can you trust where the clones are coming from, if you can then I would go with clones.. No guessing game and it's gonna save you alot of time.

@max I'm mainly looking for two types. I'm an insomniac. So I want one type to basically knock me out at night the 2nd I want for rec smoking something great tasting I like fruity types and strength I would like some very strong because my tolerance is pretty high. And I would like to yeild as much as possible that's why interested in hydro or coco. I don't wanna grow year I already pay a ton for coolong and heating. I'm thinking two three large harvests a year.also whats your take on autodlowers?

@max do you have any experience with the greenhouse color coated fem packs they are really looking good price wise the cheapest way to get a good diversity of fem strains.

What are color coated seeds? If you wanna sleep then I have a strain for you, It's called LUI, Legends ultimate indica. Some people I give it to don't even like it because they CAN'T stay awake after smoking it. hehe, Not even seasoned vets can stay awake lol Hard to find beans but if you can I HIGHLY recommend it

greehouse seeds have packs of five fem seeds with diff strains the seeds are coated with a individual color. they also claim that the coating serves as a germination aid and a disease repelant or something like that ill do a little research on lui

@woody i have looked through the diff mandala strains and must say they look good which one would you say has the best combo of taste and potency????

For your insomnia, you can't really go wrong with a well grown Kush strain. For rec smoking, I would go with a Strawberry strain. They are always delicious and always powerful to keep up with your tolerance. I think you'll enjoy growing whatever you decide on, but these two strains sound right up your alley.

Also note that I hear a lot about greenhouse fem seeds going hermie despite decent enough growing conditions. Try Nirvana, Attitude, or World Wide Seeds

Attitude and Worldwide are "Distributors" of the different seeds from numerous seedbanks.... They carry seeds from DNA Genetics, Cali Connection, Grenhouse, Nirvana, Barneys etc.... and about 50 more breeders..... Those are the 2 most trusted as far as my experience. I have heard of Greenhouse having Hermie problems with their feminized seeds.... then again, I just had some Larry OG from Cali Connection go Hermie on me as well... Then you will read in another post that some Nirvana seeds did as well... Its really hit or miss when buying seeds.... but I will tell you this, if you buy from Attitude or Worldwide, and buy "Breeder Packs" (of like 5, 6, 10 seeds), you know that you are getting what you are supposed to. I have NEVER had a problem, nor heard of any problems with DNA Genetics & Reserva Privada (both owned by same company)... Their seeds are TOP NOTCH.... Cali Connection usually is ok barring my recent Hermie, and Nirvana seems to be trustworthy... Id pick it out of one of them.....

As for what your looking for in smoke.... Its pretty much what everyone wants... You need something with some Sativa for the Day time... I will tell you, my all day smoke is, and has been for almost 2 yrs now, "Headband" now known as "Sour Kush". Its a cross of Sour Deisel and OG Kush..... Smells and tastes awesome, and there is no crash from it. You can smoke it ALL DAY LONG.... Very fruity

As for your night time Knock You Out smoke..... There are so many... Just choose a mainly Indica strain... My night time smokes are always rotated, but I like DNA's Cataract Kush (although its a low yeild), DNA's ReCon (knocks me the fuck out), also an unknown genetic Purple Kush and Nirvanas Super Skunk. I like cheese strains as well, but the Kush is where its at.....

@ jayfury thank's for your input makes things a lot clearer. i heard a few good things about dna seeds from other forums. as far as my sutup i have decided to go with a scrog, i know i need a branchy strain but how would a pure sativa do in scrog i ask because i hear the usually form one large or main cola.?
