My SSV Review and Volcano Comparison

I recently purchased a SSV and decided to do a review. I've owned a Volcano for quite a while now and I've already done a very positive review on that, so I'd thought I'd give a comparison review for the SSV. The SSV actually arrives tonight so I am yet to use it, but I was so impressed with the fast shipping I'd thought I go ahead and start. I placed the order for my SSV on Monday, June 23 at 10:30 am. At 11:15 I received confirmation of my order. To me, this is just a small sign of great service. Sure, I know I placed my order, but now I know they received it, and it even lists the details of my order. Black with red knobs and heater, matching the grinder as close as possible. I specified in my order that I wanted to be simple, something I could keep on the coffee table. Whether or not they get close to what I was looking for is still yet to be determined.

A mere 6 hours later, I received an email that my SSV had been shipped.

Now that is service. Ordered Monday morning, and with free shipping my SSV will arrive Wednesday evening (TODAY!!). Granted, the reason my item shipped so fast is because I was having NO CUSTOM WORK done, but still, this is impressive for a company dealing with so many growing pains.

Oh yeah, my total for :
1 SSV
10 extra screens
1 extra whip (you're welcome roomates)
1 red grinder
Free custom hemp bag (included with SSV, sweet)

$279.23

I was told in a forum to use 420Times or mention the name Paul for a discount, but I didn't see where that was applied anywhere.

So that's about it for now. I will post a full review tonight once I have given it a thorough evaluation. I will be doing a thorough comparison to my Volcano as I know a lot of people are comparing these to items. I will say this about the Volcano; It's been a wonderful item and hooked me on vaporization. However, as of recently, its been hitting a little harsh, a little dry, kinda nasty tasting, etc. I tried changing bags and all mouthpieces, screens, etc. Nothing worked. Then I opened it up. It was disgusting. So much dust and debris, all settling in the path of the air that I was breathing in. If you've ever seen a fan on your computer all covered in dust, this is what the entire inside of the machine looked like, except the dust was brown, not gray. I decided then and there that I wanted to physically see the exact path the air was taking, and with the SSV, I can do that. That is one of the main differences in the Volcano and SSV. The SSV, while much simpler, has a glass on glass path from the ceramic heater to the whip. The Volcano draws air from the bottom and that same air passes over all the electronics inside the machine. I am not sure if the dust I saw is causing the taste, but seeing it was more than enough for me to stick the Volcano in the closet. If you've been an owner for some time, you might want to pop it open and check for yourself.

Be back tonight with more, hopefully completely blazed off my SSV.

So I've now used the SSV for 1 night, about 5 hours of straight use between my roomates and myself. It arrived Wednesday at 5 exactly and everything was packed nicely in the free hemp bag that was included. Both whips were ready to use with screens included. The SSV itself is black with red knobs and heaters, just as I has asked for. There is some yellow mixed in also, but I am fine with that. From the time I opened the package, everything was unpacked and ready to use within 5 minutes. I turned the dial pretty low and let the ceramic heater warm up. I used my purchased grinder to grind a bowl and then used the whip to suck small amount worth into the whip. This was my first time using a whip. I was a bit worried I would spill weed or cough it out, but it was simple to use and worked fine. I connected the whip to the SSV heat source and started to draw slowly. The temp was a bit low so I turned it up a bit and drew again. The temp was perfect and I received a nice long draw of vapor. I repeated stirring the bowl and taking vapor draws about 7 times until the entirety of the weed was toasted brown.
I've been hitting my SSV this whole time and I just want stop and say, buy one of these things. If you want a vape, buy one. I have a volcano, this is better. If you're worried about sharing with friends, buy an extra whip and it'll hit even faster than the 'cano. This is such an amazingly simple and effective way of getting THC from your weed. It taste so much better than the Volcano. It hits smoother. The whip is much better than the bag in my opinion. With the bag, the weed gets stale mixing with all that oxygen. You can mix the weed very easily after every hit, unlike the Volcano. I love this thing. Its the best thing i've purchased in a long time. God, I sound like an SSV salesman. I'm not! Read my Volcano review that I wrote awhile back. I LOVED MY VOLCANO! This is better. Much better. And amazingly, half as expensive.

There is some small negatives. There is a slight plastic taste from the whip. I don't believe its dangerous as there air is not hot at this point, and it certainly does not taste worse than the volcano bag, but its still there, slightly. You get the same taste if you just breath through the tube with no heat or weed. I have a very sensitive pallet, so for most people this probably won't be an issue. I tried going straight glass on glass from the heater to the whip handle. This worked quite well actually and got rid of the plastic taste, but it was a bit hot. I also ran the whip tube to my bong. This was awesome. Really awesome. Great tasty air cooled hits. Ice alone works fine, no water needed.

The only other downside, even though its cheaper than the Volcano, $275 isnt cheap, especially when you see the SSV. It looks like it could be made for $50. But the genius is in the design, and thats what you pay for. And it's worth every penny.

Now I have to get back to using my favorite new device. Please feel free to ask any questions about use. I will try and get some pictures up later.
