My should I grow thread

I posted my thread in the wrong section so I'm going to repost it here.

I've been thinking about growing for sometime and can't decide whether I should or not. I don't even smoke anymore and don't want to. I think I'd just like to grow it cause it be a cool hobby that has risk which we all love to dabble with. I live with my mom and want to set up a small one plant closet grow. I'm sure your all used to this idea so I won't go into detail about it, but it'd be a Scrog method fluorescent tube setup. I'm worried about the smell but have an ionizer. She smokes about a half a pack a day and never goes in my closet.

I'd sell the weight to my two friends that are at the house often.

To give you an idea of who she is, my friends smoke in my room and she doesn't say anything. I even tell her they smoke. I used to be really into drugs and have gotten away from them and are no longer tempted by them, so she's not very suspicious of me anymore.

Thoughts? Much appreciated.

Oh and we live in an apartment.

Keep it small and your mouth shut. she wont smell it and your friends wont rip it off.
Maybe buy a pack of incense and light a few. She gets used to your room stinking and don't go in there.

then i say do it, growing weed is a very nice pastime and you really gain a lot from the experience i think...

but i'd say make sure you can block the light from coming out the closet, as well as you'll be dealing with heat issues possibly, make sure to have fans handy...and remember, the more lights, the more yield!

I was going to build a light tight grow box and throw the ionizer in there. I've heard the fluorescents don't put off too much heat. Is it really practical to be exhausting weed air out into the closet space. Should I exhaust the air into a second chamber where the ionizer is?

Fluorescent bulbs don't get that hot, I actually do just fine in a grow closet with no ventilation. Just make sure to check on them for the first couple of days to see how much heat builds up during a cycle, but fluros run cool enough that a plant can actually touch the bulb for a while without much damage. I would run a small fan for about half an hour a day just to clear out the O2 though.

A $20 air purifier usually has a pretty good ionizer built in, which is what I use to keep the smell down. To avoid light seepage, set your grow cycle to start with your sleep cycle, that way, you are asleep in your room for most of the grow time, and nobody will see. If you have to go out, leave the regular light on in your room to avoid the lights streaming out noticeably. The more often you are at home when the lights are on, the less likely somebody will go snooping in your room and see light coming out.

Ok so I stumbled upon this thread and...

what do you plan on growing in ? and you only want to grow one plant ? i'm sure if you wanna keep it small and simple that your not going to be buying seeds ? but I definately recommend you to... buy some feminized seeds maybe a small simple 5 pack..
If you plan on only growing one plant and u start one plant (bagseed) get all the way through veg and put it on 12/12 and come to find out it's a male then you have to start all over again.. unless you start like 5 (bagseed) grow to 12/12 state and flower all 5 then pick the best of the females (if you have more than one that is) then flower that out ... if not you might go through alot of grows (if only growing one plant) until you find that one female plant .. where with feminzed seeds grow one from seed and it's female your golden .. not to mention.. u buy 5 fem seeds you have 5 grows (if only wanting to grow one plant.. .

my recomendation on fluro's buy cfls .. up at walmart they have these metalic dome work lights with a clip for like 6 bucks a piece buy like 5 of those (acts like a little hood) and just cover your plant all the way around.. I did thise when I was alot younger just starting out... bought the 42 watt cfls and used like 5 per plant and got amazing results... tube fluro's aren't really that affective towards mj... they will work but you'll definately see alot better results with the domes and cfl's .. .TRUST ME..
