My room up for advise

Hi. I have a 8x10x8 room in the basement that is my grow room. This is a micro grow. I only plan to have 1 plant flowering at a time. That being said if my room is designed well enough I may consider working my way up to my 4 plant max. But for now its a 1 plant operation as odor is the issue.

The goal is to have zero odor transfer from the room to the house.

I managed to tie into the HVR system as seen in pic. While I dont know how much air it moves, it runs at high for 20min/60min and then is also drawing air when the furnace runs. I have two 4 inch duct boosters feeding into the tent and drawing from and to the filter can.

I am going to vapor barrier the ceiling to get a better seal on the room as the current ceiling is very leaky into the cold air return of the furnace.

I draw air from the adjacent room in the basement, pulling 71F air in. I can open windows downstairs to adjust that temp during colder months.

Do you think this will be enough to keep the odor to zero?

The one wall is to the exterior and I could, and am really considering putting a 6inch straight out to vent the room. A Vortex S-600.

Is this overkill? I have female approval for this operation but that will change if I have any odor in the house.

Thanks for the advise

Aha! I found my HRV unit stats. Its rated 179CFM on high. I don't know how that translates to how much air is actually being removed from each vent, but between the different bathroom ports and the inconsistent run times I think ill consider this ventilation as a low flow helper.

I think Ill do some air tests. Im going to go buy some incense.

What is that pipe in the wall going too? Your goal should be negative pressure pulling air through that filter not pushing air through as it looks like it’s set up currently.

Did you cut a hole in the top of that tent? Haha

Id start on the wiring first, get enough extension cable and or get things placed in optimal areas.. That stresses me out just looking at it. Id also make sure to fasten those wires to the wall or cieling correctly, or get some plugs put in the wall where you need them.

Also that light is pretty useless ohtside of a tent aswell. Id look at building or buying a couple good enclosures or clearing jt all out and running a couple 600w hps's

I see fire hazards too

Agree ..
A little haphazard , I would wall mount strips ...

Tent would have been better suited to run small panel for say seedlings or some minor grows .
That way you can run a “ closed “ tent grow or veg area .

Other light seems better suited for drop hanging over corner area .

Plus you will later want some type of bucket stands to keep root bottoms from cold floors.

Oh Man. Ask and I shall receive. No, I didn't cut a hole in the top lol. Jesus Christ man.

I just have one light on those outer buckets. They will be herb buckets. I only plan on growing 1 plant at a time so a 2x2 tent in a ventilated garden room is perfect for me.

Yes a bit Chaotic but it all makes sense to me. Granted I need to do a better job of wiring and such. Where is the fire hazard??? You cant just say that and not say what it is.

My understanding is you can pull through or push on a carbon filter with equal success, though pulling is ideal. I do have to move the pre filter to the inside. With a 2x2 tent, pulling isn't an option. So pushing works like a charm. And I do like drawing the hot tent air from above straight into the can without a bend. And I know I will probably be making positive pressure in the tent with the second duct blower on the floor blowing into the tent but its very nice cool air and it brings the temp down significantly. With an addition of a 6inch exhaust fan out the side of the wall to outside I figured what smell is left gets taken care of by that and the HRV. I don't need a scent free room, just a sent free house. And I only want one plant.

I grew the shit out of this room over the past year, practicing my hydroponics skills. I had 7 DWC buckets going and it was a fruitful jungle. I shut it all down for a couple months to regroup for cannabeeees. The tomatoes, herbs and peppers loved the temp of the room but from what I am reading, cannabis will not like temps that hot. I Managed the humidity and air circulation previously by fan and accessing the cold air return on the ceiling and drawing from the room. It conditioned the house air nicely and kept the garden room in perfect balance. Now that I have odor to manage that is sealed up and I figured Id tap into the every flowing, automatic home HRV.

I found the room was too hot! So was the tent interior. I opened up that hole at the base board which provides cool basement air and make up air to a tight ish room.

The black pipe is house plumbing, nothing to do with the grow room. But its the wall where the exhaust fan would go.

The problem your going to have is the fact you haven't done stinky plants pushing through the filter can allow the stink to leak. Having it hooked to the cold air return will suck the shit in to the house. You want negative pressure to keep the smelly little particles from going anywhere put through the filter plus it pushing through those filters arent the best for the longevity of them. As for fire hazards extension cords arent the best for growing especially the smaller gauge one you have. If you have to use an extension cord get the bigger gauges they have like 12 gauge. How hot does the room get? You want to keep it 80 or under unless your rocking heavy co2.

Yes, the cold air return was for my previous grow. I will not be using the this time.

I’m going to shape up the electrical.

I bought another tent. A 4x4x6. I’m going to run a 6inch in-line fan out the wall to outside, pulling from the two tents creating negative pressure.

Presto. Nothing spending a little money couldn’t solve.

Controlling the smell is simple with the charcoal cannister inside the tent with negative pressure. I grow 2 plants in my small basement and cannot smell it at all in the house. If your canister isn't getting rid of the smell from one plant, perhaps its time for a replacement. They do get "used" up.
