My Papaver

Hey great to see a thread on pap som. I myself have been growing for 3 years. Poppies like cool weather. Here is how I germinate them. I get 1 3/4 inch or 2 inch jiffy strips. 1 3/4" - 72 per flat, or 2" - 50 flat. Fill with potting soil, get the soil completely wet, then sprinkle seeds on, put just a skim of dirt over, and water lightly. Poppies need light to germ. Put in a spot that will get around 35 deg F during the night and 50 deg F during the day. When you see them starting to grow, move them outside, do not take out of peat pots, poppies hate to be transplanted. Plant them around 18 inches apart. When they become a little older thin each jiffy pot down to one strong plant. Poppies thrive well in poorly fertlile ground. So no fertlizer. Also they prefer to be on the dry side. When young they need to be kept moist, as they get older stay away with the water, unless they are showing stress. I get my seeds from Izmir spice and oil. Check out the Afghanistan strain. It takes alot of poppies to make anything. Grow happy and have fun.

Ive got some started outside. Cant have any going inside as I only have a veg chamber which i keep on 16/8 with a 250w 65k. To my understanding they still need red light for flowering (alot of it). Im also under the impression, if you plant them out in autum, rather than spring, they should flower in summer, as the winter season gives them that growth they need rather than planting in spring and waiting a year...

so about how many pods does it take to get a nice gram of O? or how many for an ounce that would be sweet. that pod you are using seeds from looks very small. i have ordered pods off the internet that are the size of base balls. i wish i still had some of them seeds. lol. wouldnt you get bigger plants with bigger pods if you took seeds from one of those gigantum pods instead of the tiny one your using? or was it just premature?

To be honest....no idea....this is the first time im trying to grow it, the first time.....i had troubles after the sprout phase, the second time they got really big and then overtaken by spider mites, like crazy, in the matter of a day or two, ....so im trying again.....as for the pod size this was a mature plant as far as I know...there are different variations in the strain I belive and I'm sure a smaller pod can harvest a seed that will grow into a larger one....but either way.....i'll find out soon enough.....hopefully!
