My New Grow Tent!!

im so happy to finally be stepping into the world of growing something ive been wanting to do since i was 17, that was the last time i grew. i hope i am doing it right. i have taken the advise of an employee at the hydro shop with over 12 years expedience. i let him guide me into my first set up. here is what i have bought so far..

*4x4x7 Sun Hut XL - strictly for flowering
*6" exhaust fan
*6" 25ft ducting
*XXXL Magnum "The Ocho" hood
*1000w ballast (hav not purchased yet, but will be a Lumatek or Galaxy digital dimable)
*1000w bulb (have not decided on exactly which one)
*3gal containers (want to put no more the 8 in there at a time, but may have to fill it. just depends still)
*Sun Grips for the hood
*Sunshine Advanced Mix#4 for medium
*Botanicare line of Nutes

will this work? i mean the tent, fan, hood, light set up? what else may i need? i also have another walk in closet for the veg, clones and mothers. i pretty much have the veg room going. i just picked up a wall mounted fan and it was faulty (second item i have bought in the last week i have had to return). i will get again after the ballast and bulb. so here is what is in the Veg Room:

*2 Sunblaze 46-T5 (one on each side of closet. one for mothers-hung horizontally and one for veg)
*3 4ft 4-bulb Florescent Fixtures w/ 3 daylight bulbs and 1 cool white bulb per fixture (1 for clones-hung horizontally, 2 for mothers-hung vertically)
*Badboy Blades wall mounted fan
*Clonex Rooting Gel
*Roots Organic Soil (for clones)
*12oz cups (for clones)
*1gal containers for veg

i may have left out a few things here or there. but that is a bases of my rooms i have the tent in my bedroom, everything else is in the huge walk in closet i have. this should get me through the first grow, correct? i plan on investing in a portable A/C unit and a CO2 generator or tank and i need a R/O system. but for the most part this is it! i would like to know if anyone has the similar set up? how has this set up worked for you in the past? my main goal is for a perpetual garden. have not decided if i need to go bushmaster or sog. i have heard of Scrog, or something to the sort. i need to do some research on that. i have learned how to fim my plants but i find it is better just to top just 2 times per plant. well so far, have not seen anything in flower yet. i sit and do research for most of the day, but my short term memory is not like it it used to be, so i have to take notes and save pages and shit like that. my main concern with this post is to just get a census on my set up for now. i have mites atm and do not know how i feel about the few plants i wanted to keep as mothers. if i cant get the mites to die and go away, im fucked! so im in between some shit right now, but that is another thread.

If everything is in veg right now you can knock out those mites with a product called Doktor Doom. It works great but cannot be used on flowering plants. How did you manage to have them already and you are just starting out? I don't know beans about tents.

i pulled a plant from outside inside. i think no, i know that is how they came about. its not an infestation, the is no webs. i only see about 5-10 a day. i kill them with my finger. but ive been doing this for about 2-3 weeks and now i see little white ones. so i have 2 nib this shit in the ass before it bites me in the ass! and i threw only 4 plants into the flower tent on the 6th. so like 3 days of flowering on 4 plants only. i was to lazy and did not have the room to do the clone-sex test. im also having some other issues. FML!!!!!

the only reason im stressing is because i keep making rookie mistakes. like bringing plants in from outside, under watering, over watering. under fertilizing, not fertilizing soon enough. i have 3 Super Purple Platinum Bubba Kush (its soooo good) plants. they are a week behind all my others and they seem to be doing the best. i do not know why. its bogging my f'n mind. i just got my ph meter. and i have realized the importance of perfect ph. now i need a combo meter. need to get the ppm down. im debating keeping any plants as mothers at this point. maybe take a clone off the females, replant them into mothers and start feeding sooner. i think i jumped into everything headfirst and its gradually starting to kick me in the teeth!

OK! im a little upset. yeah, ill try to do the breathing technique, but no promises. i have a tent with 6" duct holes, the hood i have is 8". the guy who is helping me with my set up at the hydro store is suggesting i use the 8' exhaust fan. i bought the 6"!! WTF?!?!?! i dont know if hes just selling me the most expensive shit because i kinda slipped and said "money is no object"...but at the same time i told him i was broke and poor so i had to get everything individually. i have about 85% of everything i need. just need to exchange this fan for the 8" and need a bulb. bought Galaxy 1000w ballast yesterday. i seem to be hitting brick walls with everything. gnats, mites, under watering, over watering. no fertilizer, nute lock out, not having a ph meter right away, dealing with coco!! i will NOT give up. i will have patience, and i will get over these bumps in the road. if it were not for RIU, i do not know what i would do!!

i know need to research R/O systems. that is my next purchase! then a A/C unit, then C02....then Bluelab Combo Meter. i should be able to rock some decent shit with that set up. if not im going to buy a knot making book, some rope, and a nice chair to kick! lol...j/k!! i wouldn't. but its pretty damn stressful. maybe i should try a premixed soil next time, but i AM!!!! back to the drawing board!

I started out with 2 clones in soil, a 400 watt hps w/bat wing reflector for flower and t-8 flouros for veg and a couple pedestal fans. I think you are trying to bite off more than you can chew. Your stress is self inflicted. Some of those tents have drawstrings so you can use different sized fans & ductwork. If not, you may want to get something to make the 6" work. This is supposed to be a relaxing hobby (it can be, really) but you are so worried about details you can't see the forest for the trees in the way. Relax, it will be okay, I promise. You will make no mistake that is original. We are all in this together and I'm pulling for you.

MUCH APPRECIATED!! im just stressing because ive already returned 2 things this week. and having to have someone hold my hand while shopping at 32yrs old is a little depressing. i know this is a fun hobby! im having a lot of fun so far. but with fun comes stress, it seems to be in my world only though, lol!! and as far as biting off more than i can chew, they make flanges that go from 6" to 8". so, i was just getting flustered. i appreciate the responses and support!! :leaf:

i heard the Sunshine Mix is more forgiving...it has nutes in it, enough to get me through the first few weeks. and it actually did! i didnt start seeing problems until the 4th week. but by the 6th week it was a little too late. when i went to go get the ph meter i wanted they were out of stock. so i waited a week, and found out i was after the wrong one (live AND learn). so i have the meter, i have the right nutes, im all good to go. just have to figure out how to properly vent the heat. im using a 400w bulb in my tent right now and it gets up to 90 during the day cycle. im hoping that the A/C unit im looking at will work. and im hoping the exhaust will help. im just learning as i go...

Eh, every newbie makes mistakes.

And often, it's better to learn from mistakes than to do everything perfectly from teh start. You have to make mistakes, honestly...

Here's how to manage spider mites:

IDENTIFY: The spider mite is the most common pest found on indoor marijuana plants and causes the most problems. To a newbies, they are hard to spot, spider mites have eight legs. Find microscopic spider mites on the bottom of the leaves. However, their telltale signs of feeding, yellowish white spots, on the tops of leaves are easy to see. Careful inspection reveals tiny spider webs on stems and under leaves as the infection professes. A magnifying glass will help you see the yellow white two spotted, brown or red mites and their clear eggs. Indoors the most common is the two spotted spider mite. After the they fuck like rabbits females are fertilized for life and reproduce 80% female and 20% male eggs, females will lay about 100 eggs.

Damage: Spider mites suck life giving sap from marijuana plants causing over loss and stunting of growth. Leaves are poked with suck hole marks in yellow from failed to produce chlorophyl. The marijuana plant will loose partial to full function (which means your marijuana plants are fucked) Leaf yellowing and drop. Once a plant is overrun with spider mites the infestation progresses rapidly.

In simple words if you get mites and don’t catch them you are screwed.

How to control Spider Mites: Be clean. This is the most important first step to spider mite control. Keep the grow room tools spotless and dis-infect your tools. Mother marijuana plants often have spider mites, Spray mothers often with miticides including once three days before cutting. Once you become infested the entire grow room will have to be stripped down and clean. YOU DO NOT WANT THESE THINGS

WOW!!!! now i dont think i have mites. cuz no webs! there small damn tiny i cant see legs. i just think they are mites in general. it appears i have 2 different kinds. at first they were black with little red spots. and now they are like white. i cant really say what they are. but i have a buddy who suggested i use a soapy water spray. i performed the wash method one them today. and i see less, but still a few here and there. what they are leaving appears to be black little like black resin stains. little dots on the bottom leafs. i may be able to take a pic so you can see exactly what they are, but they way you are putting it, they may not be mites!! ive had them for a few weeks, and no webs anywhere!!

I started with a 4x4 sun hut with a 600 watts light and ducted sealed hood. ran a 6 inch duct fan and carbon filter. did'n have a problem with heat but it was in the middle of my basement. I don't see a reason that hood wouldn't work for you. Was very happy with my hut so i bought a 4x8 too. run a 600 watt in each side and moved the 400 watts of t-5's to the 4x4 for the cloner and mothers. Got some spider mites a while ago and thought i had them taken care of with some soaps. but a couple weeks later i found webs in some of my bushes, now i'm down to a re-start. would just suggest taking care of any mite problem asap. best of luck

Boy I really do hate these mites, newbie myself and have dealt with them for 2 grows now. Hot shot strips seem to work at first but after a couple of weeks guess what? there back. Now tryin some Garden Safe Neem oil Extract along with putting the hot shot strip back in. The neem oil seems to work good butt I know it doesn't kill the eggs. Thinkin about using avid or ortho before they go to the B room so I won't have to deal with em over there. Will update in a few days with results, only one plant out of six has em that I see so far.

hEy!!! have you heard of Mighty Wash? i hear awesome AWESOME things about that product. you should look into some of that. i do not see a huge infestation so im going to try lady bugs. if that does not work for me, then i will try MW. i hear you can use it all the way up til the day of harvest. i do not see webs, so i do not think there fucking shit up that bad yet. but, i do see a lot of fucked up leafs. and ive lost a grip of leafs this garden. some ppl say that is normal regardless.

and after thinking about it a little bit more, im debating switching mediums. i would like to go with an organic soil and try to keep it as organic as possible, no additives, no fertilizers (if possible, or just use organic nutes) and see how that works out. i was told the SM#4 is really good for beggingers, but its coco based and i hear coco is tricky. but i also hear coco is the future and is really awesome stuff!

thanks for all the help!!!

coco is not all that tricky, just make sure to ph your nutes and have some run off. not sure if that SM4 is cut with anything but i'm rocking 100% coco here and its pretty awesome. in the early stages you do have to watch the waterings, but once the roots are established you can hit them every day. the roots in coco i must say are insane, once the plants have filled out the bottom with roots, they start to creep up for the moisture and then it explodes. i'm loving coco, i used to be a fox farm ocean forest grower but now i'm glad i switched. i swear the growth is amazing in coco. i started some seeds on the 1st of this month and they are F'n massive and are already showing sex

yeah! this my first grow, and i love the size of my plants. i have a 5ft Skunk plant in my tent that is getting more massive every day! i didnt use any nutes for the first 4 weeks of this grow, and did not have a ph meter. so i learned the hard way how reliable the coco is. it told me right away - FEED ME!! at week 3 i knew i had to do something. the dude at the shop was like "your plants should be dead"...lol!! i was like "maybe i have a green thumb" i have a nice nute program they are on right now. thinks are looking awesome right now. except on one of my veg plants there is some shit going on im not too happy with. i like the coco, its a great medium. i just wish i woudl have read up on it more before getting into it. i kind went into it blindly. it is cool though, because knowledge is key. and it has taught me a lot. im started my 2nd grow. now that i have a better understanding of the stuff i believe my outcome is going to be gnarly!!
