450W HPS

Just finished setting up my grow room, seeds are coming by mail within the next few days bought 10 big bud and 10 Caramelicious seeds, also came with 40 free seeds XD . The setup is a basic, 450W Hps, outtake fan 20 ft of tubing going out the duct in my old laundry room we no longer use. The walls are sheeted with mylar, going to have a stand up fan for air rotation. The setup costs me around 400 bucks with seed cost which isn't too bad :P .

Anyone know exactly how many i can plant in there? also i heard a lot about a separate grow room for just the mother plant, i haven't had much time to search the internet for this so can anyone give me a brief explanation on how i could do this? i have a few closets i could use to do it. many thanks will be updating with pictures apon grow Any Tips from you pros would help :P especially your opinions on how i could do an outake/intake setup with carbon filter.

You do not have enough room for a mother there. If you want to go the cheap way, or one due to circumstances, get 3 florescent Shop lights from walmart. The 2 foot long ones with 2 bulbs per. and put the walmart grow lights in them...about $5 bucks each. Cost is very cheap. You can keep a mum alive in a closet with those. She will get tall and gangly due to the low strength light but it will work.

As far as your grow room. 450 is a low light. I'd honesly only grow 3 or 4 in there. You can grow more but at dimminishing returns.

Yes! you can keep moms really small. Key is you have to seperate the lighting between the mom/clone/veg area and your flower area. moms and vegging plants need 18+ hrs of light and flowering plants need 12 hrs of complete darkness without fail. That is where it gets tricky when using 1 room for both. To learn more about keeping small moms google "bonzai mums" and you will find oldtimers guide and a few others. I currently have 4 moms, a dad, 12 clones, and 2 recently planted clones in a an area that is 7" x 14" x 10" high under 2 13w cfls. it takes some maintenance to keep them little but it is most certainly doable. They just get lots of haircuts!! After messing around with a bunch of different pot sizes, I ended up using 12 oz coffee bags cut in half. They are about 2" x 3.5 x 3.5 and work really well for a small space.

As for your filter, vent and seeds. I would suggest you don't germinate the seeds until you have your whole ventilation thing worked out. that is probably the most important part of the grow. Keeping that room cool is no easy trick and then once you add a carbon scrubber to the mix, it is even harder. You will need to ventilate and filter your mom area too. I'm not going to take the time to write a tut in your thread how to do it but all the info is available on the site. Just start reading and formulate a plan. Then post it back here and people will help you with the pros and cons of what you are planning.

Good Luck!

*edit* You may also want to read up on mylar... if it isn't perfectly flat it may cause some hot spots and other problems for you. It certainly isn't 100% efficient if it isn't perfectly smooth.

Maybe you could cut some of those shelves out so make room for more hight. It would be easy to box it all up into a nice grow cabinet.

I thought about doing that but im not much of a handy man, the screws arent vissable as far as i can see.

Edit: Poped off the 2nd to last shelf, sits right on top of the part where the shelf was held by perfect for 1 flourecent light.

What would you guys recommend to cover up the light on the shelves and the corner of the room?
Personally I would cover the flowering area and leave the mom/veg area open. that way you aren't restricted to entering the room only during lights on in the flower room. I would build a wall/door over that area but if you aren't handy you may look into panda plastic and attach it with velcro or something similar. Just make sure it is lightight.
