My Information Superhighway Roadrage...

This is just me venting a bit. :cuss:

There used to be a time when a borderline intelligent person could go onto the internet to research a subject....and basically find whatever they were looking for.

Nowadays...you go online and search something out....if its not a tangible item like something you can buy....be prepared to find conflicting information on everything. And I do mean everything!

Look at growing for instance...When should I harvest? Search that on Google and you'll probably find 15 different answers. Should I run my light 18/6 or 24/0? Same thing. Whats the best way to cure? Same thing.

Whats my point? My point is....take everything you read online including things you read here with a grain of salt. There is always something out there to say different. Somethings DO have only one correct answer....but any idiot with pc can go in and edit a wikipedia posting. So everything has something to the contrary somewhere online...Ok Im done.

I know where this is coming from:blsmoke:. But yeah I agree wholeheartedly. There are too many morons on the net putting up misleading info. Some of them are even Doctors who simply wish to put their opinion out there with no factual basis. this is what leads to the misleading information that we all get when we do a search. the fact is that you can never trust what you learn until you prove it yourself. Some people think that the first thing in a google lineup is the most plausible and HAS to be right. It's these people who are the lackies who go around making these once tiny lies into a huge quagmire of lies.

One of the main things that I found a few years back was when I did a research project on the relationship between stretching and muscle injury. Popular belief would have you believe that stretching decreases the likelihood of injury to joints. when in fact, it does not. Only a warm up of repetitive slow or lightweight exercise will help. Somehow people with little intelligence thought that stretching is the same as warming up and started spreading the rumors and here we have it.

Now you can go and find this info pretty easily, but there are still those who contradict what the doctors are saying and it's these people who cause the problems. People need to learn that maybe they are wrong once in awhile and that their opinion is not always the correct one.

See...thats what I mean. I work out too and had to quit looking for answers online because I would find different answers on different days.

Stick with the basics and use some common sense....That seems to apply to just about everything. Cutting corners and looking for a fast answer will almost always land you in a pile-o-shit. Err on the side of caution....Like I said....that goes for almost everything.

Yep, at least 80% of the information on the net is crap. and unfortunatly the only way to really find out real answers is by talking to the source of those answers. My best friend when researching anything is the "contact us" button.

Or it causes infertility...or that you WILL get hooked on real drugs....hard drugs. Or that it makes women loose (lol I think that depends on the woman).

This is what I always do. I'm a big advocate of common sense, and trusting my instincts. Although erring on the side of caution is something I don't like to do, I trust my instincts.

Everything I say on this site comes from my own head. It tires me when people ask for proof to such an extent it requires I cut n paste some info' from a website... as though this somehow proves what i said more.

And unfortunately if they go off and do some googling they'd probably find some BS that would contradict everything we say on this site.. If people really want to come here to learn and share then why do they constantly try and prove long time members wrong? It's like telling Einstein,"no..I think I'll still believe that the sun is just a big magical fireball.."

word. and i hear google allows sites to pay a premium fee for listing their products and services at the top of the search list.

so now, if you type one of their 'key' words you're going to get their fuck-up site selling you something instead of the info you wanted.

if they keep this up, we will move on to the next good search engine.

ask.com is pretty good. They actually hold that over google. when you go to that site there's alot better chance of getting what you want, but you still have to sort through the bullshit.

rollitup will soon have his own search engine up and running. As far as I know it's a super search engine (or something) that uses all the other search engines and searches them all at the same time.

He's working on a 'bullshit' filter too.

Believe it or not that movie came out in 1936, in the same time period that the criminalization of marijuana began. It's a joke just watching that movie but some people truly believe that due to the propaganda machine, even to this day.
