Well, the reservoir in the back will cause a problem when your plants are bigger. For sure. You'll get tired of crawling in there soon enough. If not, well, your a trooper for dealing with it. I would have mounted it outside the tent, to keep the temperatures of the water a bit cooler and to save space.

Algae grows where light and nutrients are available. So yes, a lid for that bin would be nice.

Am I seeing things or is that a soil ph tester in there? I might be wrong as I have never tried to test water with a soil tester but I wouldn't think that would work very well.

It may seem people are trying to be dicks to you but just saying from experience that certain things just won't work and I can say that res back there is going to be a problem, maybe not now but eventually it will and light needs to be completely sealed off from any water, nft is a root rot machine and you add hid lights to the res water and your asking to fail. Get that light out of the water, I never keep res's in grow area even when they are a light tight. The enginuity is there but the experience is not, that would be a great vert setup if done correctly. You should read through Heath robinsons flooded tube vert thread he is a engineering genius.

Well... the drops or strips are a cheap option for checking PH. it's not completely accurate because you'll be eyeballing it, which is why I gave up that and finally coined up for a pen, even though I was strapped for cash as well. It will help.

Also, with that small of a system, when those plants start growing, you'll be checking your PH more often. You'll get tired of crawling in and out of there trust me lol. I have the same "I'll do whatever it takes!" attitude but sometimes, I make corrections to make life easier for myself too :)

Being open minded about people suggestions on the board has helped me a lot too. There are a lot of people on here that will give you feedback, regardless if it is good or bad, but at least you'll have an idea of what to do via input from the board. I haven't gotten as far as I have by myself or by saying "I know it all". Nope, I had to endure constructive criticism too but I'll tell you what, worth it in the end!

Is this some kind of ghetto vertical NFT grow?
When your on this board enough and see enough setups, you'll be able to distinguish a "ghetto" setup and a "professional" setup.

"Ghetto vertical NFT grow" and "Xmas gone wrong" are probably your indicators that... you have a ghetto build. You can tell, there wasn't much time/money spent on this project. It looks slapped together by home depot, hell they must have gift wrapped the thing for you too. If you aren't willing to accept constructive criticism, than your going to continue to get some random "dick" comments. Our comments were kinda beaten around the bush as not to offend you.

But since you seem to think this is the coolest shit since sliced bread, I'm gonna have to be the rude guy that says, go back to the drawing board and do more homework before you start a NFT system in such a small spot. Might even want to do homework on how algae grows too.

Oh wait, you come off as close minded. Case closed. I'll look for your next thread in "plant problems" or "grow room design help" section.

is that gonna help somehow ?

or u r the one how is being a dick ?
Haha I'm normally not a dick but I'm embarrassed for you, like said below I'd start over after you can afford a decent system and a decent light, your wasting your time with what you got there, I see your intentions but you clearly don't have the skills and understanding how this works, if I were you I'd save up for a prebuilt system such as...

But these systems are generally more expensive setups.. I would just run a setup like this if you want to run a DIY NFT system.

Can be made with pvc or what I like to use is household gutters, and I wrap them in poly plastic, cut small holes and use a 2.5" cup with hydroton..

Or go buy the book "how-to hydroponics", fourth edition completely revised, by Keith Roberto. There are building plans for most of your common hydroponic setups.

That NFT above, is spendy, but that's what an NFT should look like. Not Christmas. Unless you got the thing for Christmas.

pft, hydromod for the win.
x2. Yeah, but to be honest, with the feedback. The DWC will be quite a bit better for that setup. It'll sit lower to the ground and give you more space. That NFT system is better placed in a spot where room isn't very limited. I commend your effort, but seriously, when those plants got huge, you would have been seeing things how I do.

I'll tell you what, my first system was in a 18 gallon tote, top feed DWC. I ran that for a while and the most I netted off one plant was 22oz.

I run the undercurrent top drip recirc system now. Wouldn't recommend it until you get that DWC down and add top feed to it, but, now I think youre on the right track.

If you want to pick my brain for info, feel free to message me. I have tons of hydro experience. Hydromod hellraizer is checking in on this thread too and I'm sure he is a wealth of knowledge too.

I'm seriously happy that you switched from NFT to DWC though :) :bigjoint:
