My First Growroom

Hello everyone,

I'm 16 days into my first grow ever and things seems to be going pretty good. I purchased an Aerogarden about a month ago with the intentions of growing a few plants indoors. I planted my bag seeds 16 days ago in the AG without germinating, 7 out of 7 sprouted. I won a large sum of $$$ in an online poker tournament a few days into my AG project and that brought on a few upgrades.

I now have a 3x3 tray above a 20-gallon reservoir (trust me if I was a single man it would be much, much bigger). A Hydrofarm 400 watt hps, air cooled light. The room is Co2 enriched using a Co2 “Boost Bucket”. I got a digital PH meter and a digital ppm meter. Many people told me Flora Nova nutes were good stuff so that's what I went with. I was able to run the carbon filtered exhaust through the existing hole from my ceiling fan so not needing to get out the jigsaw kept the wife happy. Since I placed it in the corner of the room, the two sides against the wall were easy to cover with mylar. I hung a panel from the ceiling covered in mylar to take care of one of the open sides, the other side will remain open for reservior access & air flow.

The 6 plants in the pics were started in the Aerogarden and transplanted to the rockwool after 10 days, they are 16 days old and will be on a 18/6 schedule for another 2 weeks or so. I have feminized White Widow seeds on the way so I'd like to get started with those ASAP!! (that is if they show up, I was told seed packages sometimes don't make it from Amsterdam). I’m hoping to get advice from people who know what they’re talking about and going by some of the journals I've seen, this site has many. I know the guy at my local hydro supply store is getting really sick of my questions…just not my $$$. Plus, I really doubt he would discuss the proper harvesting, flushing & curing processes with me. I'll try to post updates at least every other day. Oh and my avatar is a picture of my growroom keeper when I'm not home, Enter At Your Own Risk!!!

sick dude...wish i could freely use a whole room as a grow room...i would have massive yeilds....but as of right now...im stuck to closet stealth grows. =/

nice to see your setup is under way winn. Looks pretty good, let me know how that carbon filter works.

So I was picking up some cloning supplies today and while I was there I talked myself into buying the 20lb Co2 bottle & valve set-up. I'm attaching some pics and I was looking for some opinions about how I set up the distribution tube. I'm not sure if it should be closer to the plants. I'm also attaching some pics of how my babies are looking today. Sorry so blurry...

Well it looks like this grow will not be my first grow afterall...My feminized white widow seeds have arrived, I'm picking them up in the morning on my way to work. I'll keep these going as long as possible but as soon at the widow gets growing, (I'm praying they are good seeds) I'm gonna have to give those girls the space they deserve.

Question: I have a 3x3 tray with a 400watt hps light (see pics). Can i grow 8 plants in that amount of space or should I stick to 6???

6 dude and get going with the widow forget the reggy clone the widow get going bro. Or ad more light and do it big might as well my friend you got the space.

I couldn't agree more. I picked them up an hour ago and they look beautiful. I'm germinating them tonight...

hey bro the setup is beautiful i just have one question to ask are u using the high pressure sodium light for vegging? cause from what u said it sounds like that and u want to use that light for flowering not for vegging u need to get a MH light for the vegging just thought i'd let u know since ur about to plant those white widow seeds and one more thing i really think u should have waited to buy some seeds because this is ur first grow and even though u have an amazing set up there are so many things that can go wrong i've been there and done that my first grow i had 26 AK47 plants growing and i lost every single one of them and i had a good knowledge on most things but u can know all u want but when it comes down to it and ur actually growing u will get lost but good luck with everything and i hope those white widow seeds do u good but let me know for sure if u r using that hps light because u DO NOT want that for vegging only for flowering alright bro take it easy..... LATE!!!

it doesn't matter if you have a HPS or MH for Vegging, people say MH is better because the spectrum of light it gives off but HPS will do the job, some say better but to each his own. This is your first grow i don't know if id try those widows, unless you have some basic gardening experience, id deff keep one or 2 of the bag seed to get an idea, but good luck with whatever you do

Yes as of right now I have the hps only. The bag seed I have growing is vegging under the hps and it seems to be doing good. Either way, I'm not buying another light right now so the only option other than the hps would the cfl's I have and I'm not going to use those after going out and dropping this much on my new set-up. I'm going to use the hps from start to finish and we'll see how they turn out, I do appreciate the comments though and as soon as I purchase a mh, it will be my vegg bulb.

In regards to germinating my new seeds, can you tell me the best method? A friend of mine who grows said to soak them in water in a shot glass for about 12 hours then wrap them in a damp paper towel and put it in a zip lock and stick it a drawer. Does that sound about right???

Well as it turns out, they sell a 400watt MH conversion bulb for only $85. I thought I had to get a new ballast along with the bulb, So I'm picking up the conversion bulb on my way home from work...Good lookin out DJmesh2012.

I asked the owner of the hydro supply shop where I bought all my stuff if it would make a big difference using the MH for vegging and he said it would. He said it would obviously work just fine with the HPS only but he said I'll see a big difference using the MH.

And yes I have the space, But I also have a wife who flipped when I came walking through the door with just the balllast box in my hands, she had no idea there were 15 more boxes outside. So for right now, I'm not gonna try to do any expanding just yet, I've only had this set-up for about a week, though I'm dying to get the biggest ebb & flow tray they have with maybe (3) 1000watt lights...MMMmmmmmm. My room is now plumbed and ready for it.

yea for germinating i leave them in room temp water for 24hrs then put them into a damp cloth and then into a ziplock bag and put them somewhere DARK...but yea you got the right idea

Yeah I just need to end up with 7 plants, a mother and 6 to flower. I'm really hoping out of 10 seeds that happens. If I end up with more than 7 sprouts, I have a friend who will give them a good home.

If I raise my light up 3-4 feet above them, can I use my 400watt MH to start these???

here is another way for germinating this is how i do it take a plate and a bowl get a bowl that will fit on the plate upside down so that it kinda seals up then take two of those half sheet paper towls fold each one over once and set one down on the plate spray it good so its nice and moist not a whole lot cause u can drowned ur seeds but this will be what u lay ur seeds on and since u have ten u might want to use two different bowls and plates but after u lay the seeds out pretty evenly take the other folded half sheet paper towl and lay it over the seeds and make sure u spray it so its nice and moist then take ur bowl and put it over the plate u wanna keep it somewhere warm i keep mine pretty close to my heater in my room and i lay it on the ground because it will be more humid down there make sure u set somethin on the bowl so it seals as best as possible and there u go it is truly the best way u should try it with some of them it always works and i'll have a good seed germ in about 2 days and make sure u dont plant it with the shell i always wait until the shell comes completely off and if its just barely hangin on just get somethin small u can knock it off with but i've done every way of germinating and this is the best trust me i was right about the mh light was i not oh and by the way u do want to use that light to start them alright bro hopefully u will have a better success with germinating these now let me know take it easy bro

ok so I soaked them for 17 hours total and put them in the damp paper towel this morning and then into a zip lock, I put that in a drawer on my seedling heat pad. I went home for lunch to check on them and after only 22 hours total, 2 of them have cracked open, it looks like a promising start to me...
