im scribing cause someone scribed to my first grow and helped me, and it was helpful : D. Your seed has broke open and the " radicle " will soon pop out. The radicle is the initial root that pops out of the seed. When it pops out the hypocotyl will then extend and it will transform from a seed in germination to a plant in seedling. Get ready : D

The stem is about 1cm out of the seed now, how long should it be before i plant it into my plastic cup filled with Fox Farm Light Warrior Soilless Medium?

when the radicle pops its time to plant it. Plant with the radicle pointing down : D. id initially pop it into a jiffy puck or something ... but if all you got is the FF soil then just popper in that.

Ahh ok thanks for the advice, unfortunately i don't have the soil right now so i'm going to have to wait a little bit :( or find some other decent soil laying around

be very careful not to let that little root ( radicle ) poking out of the seed dry up. If it gets dry and shrivels , game over , try again.

So its day 3 and I finally planted the seed in a plastic cup. Unfortunately I couldn't get a hold of Fox Farm Light Warrior, so I had to go with MG Potting Mix. The Fertilizer Analysis is: 0.21 - 0.07 - 0.14, I am not a pro, but I don't think that will do any justice. Also, when I awoke this morning I noticed a funky odor upon opening up my damp paper towel, and the end of the radical looked a tad brown, then I went and planted it as soon as possible into the damp potting mix. I watered it with distilled water that had been sitting on my counter for 24hours+.

hmmmm i dont know how everyone else feels about miracle grow but i dont even use that stuff on the veggies i grow. Its baddie fert. Im sure your seedling will be okay though. Hopefully the soil doesnt burn the seed. Im not sure why the end of your radicle was brown, could mean it was dry , could mean it was just extending. Another tip , the distilled water doesnt have any chlorine or bad stuff in it and is usually a neutral ph round 7.0. This means that its not necessary for it to sit out for 24 hours before you use it. Its good as soon as you open the cap. From this point forward if you sowed the seed in the soil about half and inch or so it should pop up in 2-4 days. you shouldnt have to water it AT ALL for the next few days or atleast until you see the first signs of plant life rising from the soil. Also punching a few small holes in the bottom of the cup wouldnt hurt. you want the medium to be " well vented ". Im not sure if thats the best way to describe it but its best to have a few holes in the bottom anyways so you can watch for roots coming out the bottom. Im still here watchin the grow! you need any help just post it.

one of the best things thats everyone should know but most people dont learn until later in growing is just dont kill your plant with too much love. Water it, then put it away and let it do its thing. check periodically.

Yes I actually went back and mixed some soil from the yard with the MG, about 50/50. And yes, I already made 6 holes in the bottom of the cup for good drainage. It's now outside getting some sun, at this stage it should be 24/0 right? Just wanna be 10000% sure :). And by distilled water I meant that I distilled it myself by letting it sit for 24hours.

okay i now understand what you meant by distilled. Thats good, lets the chlorine get out : D . you punched the holes very good. Im guessing your atleast vaguely familiar with photosynthesis and how it works. The plant ( once it has its first two leaves (cotyledons caught-ill-eed-ins)) it is ready to start recieving light to turn into energy. Yours hsnt yet popped so it can be just about anywhere as long as the soil stays decently warm until you see it pop through the dirt. After it pops you will want to have it under alteast 18 hours light. There are neverending debates about whether it should be in the full 24 hours or on 18/6. I use 18/6 this way,the plant gets a chance to rest during the dark period and i also use less power this way. its up to you. be VERY CAREFUL with the sun. Its rays are extremely powerful and will harm your newly popped seedling if its rays hit it directly.

for consideration :
i veg under a t5 flouro but have also had great success vegging under a cheap 10 dollars flouro fixture i got from wal mart. Its specifically for " gardening " and only uses 75 watts. Its a very cheap way to get your girl started.
