My First Grow: White Widow and White Widow x Afghan Kush x Black Domina. 400W DWC

Yea, I feel like I'm about to come to the same conclusion. From some reading it seems the excessive amount of P and K from Lucas in veg is locking out Ca. I'm feeding with CalMag+ already, so a straight Ca def doesn't quite make sense to me.

Total PPM is 850, starts with 0 with RO water, raises to 200 when I add CalMag+, then 850 when I add Lucas mix(GH Flora Micro and Flora Bloom)

I have to go to the hydro store today anyway so I was thinking of picking up a new line of nutes. What's the best way to change nutrient lines? Should I run plain PHd RO water before changing to a new line?

nope, you can just switch. I'm not saying you should switch, but just use veg nutes for veg and flower nutes for flower.... I mean, come on..that is what they are designed for...

850 seems about right, you could be right about the high p and k issue. For whatever its worth, ALLOT of people on another board I frequent have been suggesting I switch over to dyna grow nutrients. Really good results, some people have been having excellent results actually and the nutrients are dirt cheap as they are extremely concentrated!!

Alright thanks, may or may not make it to the hydro store tonight, it might have to wait until tomorrow. Should I change out the res now? Since it seems like the problem started with the new res, maybe switch to just water? Or will that just make the problem worse? Maybe switch to Lucas with no CalMag+?

1. fuck the lucas method. Just fuck it. If you need some convinving, then google lucas formula and DWC... what do most hits that come back say....problems.

2. Decide on a nutrient line..I am botanicare, but will be switching to dyna grow.

3. you need micro and macro nutrients.. why you would ever think about getting rid of calmag..your micro....I have no idea.

4. Get some nutes.. veg and micro formula is all you need. Mix according to the label and get the concentration to around 800 ppm (KaCl scale) then add DM zone at the regular concentration ..its around 3ml per 5 gallons. then PH to 5.5 and walk away.

5. Top off with plain water when needed. After a couple top offs, add a little nutrients..both micro and veg to get you back up to 800 again. At the end of around 10 days (or more likely two weeks as your plants are young, dump everything and remix.

cheers.

So I didn't really change anything at all. Did a res change on Monday, cut back on the CalMag by half and bumped up the Lucas formula just a bit. Worked out to be:

5ml CalMag+
17.5ml GH FloraMicro
35ml GH FloraBloom
2.75 Gal RO Water

Have also started the Liquid Light + Saturator foliar feeding, today was it's second application. Monday was half strength, today's was full.

I bumped the water level up a little bit because the roots seemed to be cording. Also, the roots out of the water seem a little brown and might be kind of slimy, the roots in the water are super white. Going to pick up some Zone at the hydro store to treat them with.

Other than that, everything is looking good, I think the last damage I posted about was due to the PH being above 5.8 for the 4 days I was gone and Calcium is locked out at that range. The damaged areas were the newest growth at that point in time, and the damage hasn't got worse since then or spread at all. You can see the damage in the last picture.

Will be flipping her to flower early next week.

they look pretty goood. they could be a little greener... but then again your not adding much nitrogen. And you still have some kind of micro deficiency. above 5.8 is just fine. I run pretty much 6.3 all the way through flower.. mostly.

Day 6 of 12/12

Lights are on 12pm to 12am.
EC 1.5 of Lucas Formula(2:1 Bloom to Micro) with 100PPM of CalMag+ and RO water
Feeding with full strength LL/Saturator every 3 days. Spray at 4pm until all leaves drip a bit, 2 days of no foliar feeding and repeat.

EC is up around 1.5 or so on initial res change. right now it's at .95 so I'll probably up it a little bit on Monday when I change the res. PH is still being very manageable. When I mix the nutes out it is set to 5.5, and rises to 6.3 a week later when I change the res out. No PH up/down has been needed for weeks.

Have a new setup ready to roll, 4x4 tent with 5 milky way clones, a jack the ripper clone the dispensary raped(it was in a 1" rockwool cube in a 4" rockwool cube, he ripped it out of the 4" rockwool cube so there was just the 1" cube left with a few roots), will probably try to clone the living parts of that clone and this plant and end up with 6 plants in that tent, I will make a new journal about that soon.

Part of setting up the new setup I had her running on a weaker pump for a few days. I got a new pump for the new setup and have her running at the same setup I used to now though. The roots exposed to the air (between net pot and water level) got a lot browner. My boy gave my some DM zone so hopefully I can cut that problem off. I think my water levels are too cold to really have an issue though...

Also got some hygrozyme that will be run with the res change on Monday. Will probably up EC to 1.7 as well.

ummmm. I WOULD NOT put hygrozyme in your rez dude. Mostly because the zone will kill everything in that bottle. 2. because if it doesn't, hygrozyme can cause sllime outbreaks.

You ever think of researching things BEFORE you buy them?

Looking pretty good, going away until Monday for the holidays, my only real concern is she might grow tall enough to hit the glass shield on the hood while I'm gone. Hope not.

When I get back I will switch her over to the HPS, she's still under the 400W MH for now.

Per the hygrozyme, I decided I will just run zone on this plant and the zyme is being run in my new tent. As for researching things before I buy them, I haven't bought anything except for the GH nutes, the DM LL/Saturator/Zone and CalMag and Hygrozyme were all given to me.

The tops are about 26-27" from the top of the hydroton, about 5" below the hood. EC was set to 2.0 at last res change, res has been changed weekly, bumping up the concentration of the lucas formula each time, not using CalMag+ anymore, with 5ml of zone per bucket. LL/Saturator being applied at full strength bottle directions every 3 days.

So she grew just about as much as she could without me being worried. About a half inch below the hood now 30-32" tall depending on the top, switched to a "hand-me down" 400W HPS today, when payday comes around on Friday I will be purchasing a new HPS, probably a 400W solarmax.

Will be changing the res out again tonight, sticking with 2.0EC of Lucas Formula only adding DM zone and foliar feeding with full strength LL/Saturator.

Still going strong.

EC has been bumped up to ~2.15 of Lucas w/ 5ml of DM Zone.

Haven't been able to get my hands on a new HPS yet, might have to wait for the next go around. Had to raise the lights slightly, only about 6" up. The tallest cola is at 34" right now.

The top leaves are starting to get crystally, can't see it in the pictures though. She's not very smelly, got a kinda peppery, slightly skunky smell to her.

Anyone have any clue what I'm looking at for flowering times? 8 weeks? 10?

looking good. your overfeeding them and the tips are burnt... but it happens allot with new growers. Scale that shit back dude!!

Most Kush strains take 9-10 weeks if they are kept really healthy. Start messing with their health and you will get into the 11-12 week times till fully mature.

Things still going good. Been backing off the nutes the last 2 weeks but still getting a bit of nute burn. PPM is at 400 now, next week I think I might drop to straight H2O no nutes. Did quite a bit of pruning this weekend, trying to let the buds get as much light as possible in the last few weeks.

I had my ballast die on me last weekend. I was without a 400W ballast for about 6 hours before I managed to borrow one. During this time I put her in my other tent, under a 600W HPS. Unfortunately, I mismeasured, and just the very tip of the main cola ended up touching the glass on the hood for about 5 minutes before I managed to raise it. This burnt the tip pretty good as well as a few sugar leaves near the top of the cola.

Any guesses on what my yield might end up being? Planning on giving her another 2-3 weeks. She ended up just a hair shy of 3' tall from the hydroton .
